E my -Q 2--'M - -... --. 5-Q... xnxx ,,,w..u l 04 Class History Two years ago fonly yesterday, it seemsj, one of the greatest rivalries in the history of the county came to a close with many misgivings and doubts, for then, Fair Grove and Pilot were consolidated. This consolidation, in order that no partiality be shown, was given the name of East Davidson High School. Also, the colors, gold and white, were taken from both schools, the gold from Fair Grove, the white from Pilot. The new school actually began on August 15, 1961, when the players from both teams joined forces to form the East Davidson Golden Eagles. It was on the football field that the ice was broken between the students from each school. For itwas on that same field that the boys had to be friends and work together towards a common goal-V I C T O R Y! OnSeptember 1, the doors at the former Pilot High School building swung wide to admit the pupils from both schools, now as students of East Davidson. The students somewhat reluctantly began classes together, but soon struck up many new acquaintances and friendships. A few weeks later, we all met in the auditorium to elect our class officers. We chose Raymond Nicholson to assume most of our responsibilities as President, Barbara Sizemore was elected Vice-President, Aurelia Taylor was named Secretary, and Darrell Myers was given the honor of controlling our purse strings as Treasurer. We found that there were many more things to be discussed and done during our Junior year. One of the more important things to be agreed upon was the selection of a school seal. Sonnie Ragan played a major role in the final selection of the new seal.Along with the seal, came the responsibility of choosing a standard school class ring. This ring has provided the basic design for all East Davidson rings since. Soon after these problems were overcome, many more were to take their places. The many committees required to bring abouta successful Junior-SeniorBanquet had to be organized. After much preparation and many fund-raising drives, we finally finished our banquet plans by the end of December, and had only to wait until the big day, May 4. After Christmas vacation, we returned to be greeted by mid-term exams and a new year.Though we lost some of our classmates in the struggle with the books, almost all of us survived. On May 4, the greatest event in our lives fto usj came about. The Banquet! At Last! The banquet, held at the Plantation Supper Club, was a large success. As midnight approached, a few of us were getting a little drowsy, but we were snapped out of our spell when the long -remembered floor show began.Yes, the girls swooned over the ever-popular Crash Craddock and the boys thrilled to the astonishing display of Turkish dancing. Finally, our first year at East Davidson came to a close. On August 28, however, school resumed once more to find everyone happy and hale. This same year will end with three married girls on our roll. The vacation had not dampened anyone's spirit, for each one of us knew this year was our last, and that we would have to really work, so we all pitched in and gave it everything we had. Everyone began searching for their home room. Among the senior homeroom teachers were the following:Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Fowler, and Mrs. Smith. We had all hoped to be in the new school at least by the end of our senior year. Things just didn't work out for us, however, and we anxiously await the completion of the new school, even now. On December 1, those of us who plan for a further education in college took the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The scores were returned to us afew months later and most of them were satisfactory. We then began to apply for entrance to various colleges. We soon received replies, and most of them were acceptances. The year wore on, then came our hopes for a good Junior-Senior Banquet and our trip to Washington and New York. Plans for graduation were also prominent in our minds. Time sped on, with many trials, errors, and mistakes, but we all managed somehow to make it. Now, as we have been graduated, our number, which started out as 9O+, is down to seventy-odd, and we are looking to the future. . . 105 Senior Directory DON ALEXANDER Bus Driver, 3,45 Spanish Club, 3,45 F.T.A., 3,45 Ring Committee, 35 Science Club, 1, 2,45 4-H, 1, 2, 3,4.
