No major battles were fought in Indiana, but towns and vile Iages were occasionally subjected to Confederate raids and Southern Indiana was in a frequent state of alarm. Morganis car- ried out two forays in the state. The first. under Captain John Hanes, was repuised after he pushed north as far as Paoli and Hardinsburgx The second, led by Morgan, in command of some 2,500 Confederates, forded the Ohio River and in a lightning sweep took Corydon, Paoli, Greenville, Vienna, Lexington, and Versailles. Above are two historical landmarks where Morganhs Raids swept through this area, above left being located in New Alsace and above right being located in Dover.
