It is a sad thing when friendships haven't been allowed a chance to develop or are cut short by tragedy. Such is the case with Carol Back. Although she was quiet and shy, she was considerate of her friends and appreciated all consideration given in return, We are impressed by all the good things that people who knew her before her death have told us. and feel that, had there been more time, she would have found herself a friend to many more. We regret this loss and dedicate to Carol this collection of the activities and memories of this school year. ltls our gift, and to us a most special one. +53 What We Recall . . . ON SEPT. 19th 1975 The Football Homecoming candidates Were filled with excitement. While they sat in the back Of the convertible cars, Each candidate and her escort Glanced about nervously. Slowly they walked down The 50 yard line, And silence took over all As the suspenselul moment drew near. As the crowd could hear loud And clear the voice of the announcer Shelly was crowned, 1975 Football Homecoming Queen, And when the bouquet of red roses Were placed in her arms, The air was filled with applause From the approving fans, As the smile enlarged Over Shellyls face, You could see a warm glow in her eyes, And the crowd knew, Even tho the game was finished, This would be a time remembered BY ALL! This years basketball team had a fairly good season despite several set backs. One great disad- vantage for the Trojans was losing most of the starting line up from last year. The Trojans once again could not match the oppositions height, but had strong defensive skills and speed. The teams received much support and spirit from students as well as adult fans, 22' . We are now blessed with many traditions, records, and statistics of all types, and above all, many distinct personalities. It is, however, the personalities- the people, students, faculty, staff, and community who have worked so diligently to elevate the school to its present status. All of us can be proud of the accomplishments. How- ever, the school must continue to move forward in all phases of the school program. The Indians are believed to have come from Asia, the white man came from Europe, the Negro came from Africa, the Oriental, aiso, from Asia. We're sure that settlement took a lot of work, argument, cooperation, and effort. East Central has celebrated our nation's Bicentenniai in numerous ways. There were 3 major contests presented for student competition. The first, student dress up day, was won by Jeff Reeves. The second, a Bicentennial writing contest, was won by Anita Ecksteiht The third was won by Lisa Volk and Shawn Sherill for their artwork. The senior tassels were complimented by Liberty Bell emblems. The seniors key was in redrwhiterblue Bicentennial design. And here, the yearbook staff offers to contribution, the Bicentennial Section, for your enjoyment. Education: The early 1800s were a time of settlement and progress in terms of building, culture, and agriculture. The pioneers of Southeastern Indiana settled themselves, their individual methods of survival, religious locations, and log schoolhouses sprang up across the land. Teachers soon came to the territory to expand the necessary lessons of reading, writing, and arithmetic. According to documented evidence, children of five years of age and up to their grandparents entered these makeshift learning establishments. There were few books to distribute, many of these outeot-date by the time they reached our minute com- munities Educational texts were often handwmerdowns from the settlers, hometowns in the East. Education is a big part of everyonets life from beginning to end. Then, as it is now, new educational developments were being sought. This, being the year of our Great Nation's Bicentennial, we have com- piled a number of historical places and events in Southeastern Indiana, Maybe a picture or a phrase or two will catch your memory and interest. We live in a greatly widespread area; we wish to apoiogize for any communities left out of our pictorial account on the next three pages.
