Well, believe it or not many peo- ple had a favorite teacher. ln an effort to find out who the most popular teacher in the school was a survey was given to students in their English classes. On the survey were seven questions one of which was t'Who is your favorite teacher? As the results of the survey were being tallied, it was discovered that many people did not have a favorite teacher. The peo- ple that did have a favorite teacher often had more than one favorite teacher, To me a favorite teacher is a teacher that is really nice and let's you do things that most teachers would yell at you for. No shuttle had ever lifted off under such condi- tions. After analyzing the situation and consulting the engineeers from both Rockwell International and Morton Thiokol, the space shuttles two primary con- tractors, the decision of whether to launch the shut- tle or not was made. Though many had express- ed an opinion of postpone- ment, Space Center Direc- tor Richard Smith permitted the continuation of countdown. As the shuttle lifted off a small puff of smoke was emitted from the right rocket booster. This little puff of smoke was the first hint of trouble. As a result seven Americans were dead. They died for a cause which they believed.
