My father became an instructor, and he got me interested in the hobby. Three years had passed since I moved to San Antonio and started doing Vertical Rescue. It was a dangerous hobby because there was always the threat of falling rocks or the rope breaking. I couldn't imagine the rope, I, Robert Henrie, was hanging from, breaking. It was kind of scary, because I was a little afraid of heights, but I got over it. I was once the patient for rescuers and it was fascinating because there were several people my age at such places as Edge Falls and Garner State Park doing Ver- tical Rescue. None of my other hobbies were near as challenging as hanging from a 1200-foot rope. It wasn't a hobby I would recommend to just anybody, because you had to be very careful and ignore the fear of the unknown.
