As I entered the ring, I was trying to develop a good type of con- centration. l was trying to take my mind off what had happen- ed to the rider before me in the ring. l-le was thrown from his bull. Luckily he was not hurt too seriously by the fall. The gate was flung open, and the bull came charging out of the gate with me on his back. The crowd was filled with excite- ment. l was trying my best to hold on for the required amount of time. ldid it! Tommy Yeater had probably been in this type of situation many times. I-le had been rodeoing since he was four years old. Over the past twelve years he had won a horse trailer, 66 belt buckles, and 13 saddles. Yeater competed in bullriding and bareback riding, which required the rider to stay on for eight seconds. l-le also competed in calf roping. I enjoy rodeoing, he said. He wants to join the PRCA tProfessional Rodeo Cowboys Associationl when he finishes high school. That was a common view for Matt Solomon, Jody Simmons, Glen Criswell, and Michael Guerrero. Sometimes our bikes put us 12 or 13 feet in the air. lt was dangerous, yet exciting. We competed against each other with the intention to prove which one of us was the best. Sophomores built to take stress and punish- ment from our practicing. We practiced daily and freestyled just about anywhere. We did tricks that took prac- tice and determination on the ground and on ramps. The ramps we used were a 90 degree angle. We practiced daily to better our form and to help achieve our goals, which were to do trick shows for the public and just be the best we could be.
