German exchan t was their first day of high school, they were filled with excitement and en- thusiasm. lt was their first time being so far away from home for such a long period of time. They were two foreign ex- change students from the same country in the same grade level. Georg Duesberg and Hagen Blankenburg were exchange students from West Germany. American students have more freedom to do things than kids in Germany. For ex- ample, over here you can drive when you're 16 years old, but in Germany you have to be 18, Georg and Hagen both said. After a couple of months in school they have seen that American schools do not differ that much from German schools. In Germany the teachers expect more from them than in America. In Ger- many tests were harder, and they did not take them that often like over here. Tests are used as a sort of punishment when the teacher doesn't think the class is do- ing their best, Georg said.
