3N 'FCKf , . I GO. .er HORNET East Central High School 1 973 Each year the annual staff chooses a teacher to whom they dedicate the annual. The senior high section of the 1973 HORNET is dedicated to the smiler at right. Mr. Larry French, we salute you for your outstanding contributions through the lam six years to East Central. This year Mr. French applied his teach- ing talents to American and World History courses. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, Mr. French began his teaching career at E.C.H.S. in 1967 . He's been here since, because in his words, East Central is a fine place to teach. May we add that we feel Mr. Frerich helps to make East Central a finer place to learn! :1. ADMINISTRATION Dear Student, IfI could hand you a diploma and tell you your education was completed, I would do you a grave injustice. In reality, your education has only begun. East Central High School has been your first milestone in your journey toward a full, successful life. It is my sincere hope that your educational experience at East Central High School will be a resource which will fortify you to meet life's opportunities. To a large extent, the growth and continued development of South Mississippi, the State, and the Nation depend upon your application of the principles and precepts delivered to you within these walls. Use them well - they will serve you well. M. H. MALLETTE Superintendent Jackson County Department of Education Q. S Standing From Left to Right are: MR. RALPH O. COMBEST, At Large MR. H. E. Waltman Our Principal Mr. Nobles This year East Central wel- comed a new principal, Mr. Jerry G. Nobles. Mr. Nobles spent ten years at Forest County as a coach and a chemistry and biology in- structor. He also spent one year at Sand Hill Attendance Center, four years at Pearl River, and a year at Richton. This year we feel he improved our school a great deal. We not only found him to be an understanding principal, but also a very concerned person, and as we began to know him we grew to love him. When asked what he thought of our school, he stated, I LOVE IT. He says he is pleased with student attitude. He believes each student is beautiful and that the students alone have made his stay at East Central enjoyable. HE SPENT TEN YEARS AT ONE PLACE, LET'S HOPE IT'S TWENTY HERE! ! MRS. Hornets, under new head coach Ronnie Pierce, put together a very successful football campaign. The Hornets compiled an impressive regular season record of 6-3-1, which included conference wins over Vancleave, Leakesville, Pass Christian, North Hancock, St. John, and O. L.V. Their final record was 6-1-1, and they finished one-half game behind conference winner, the D'Iberville Warriors. On November 17th, following their well accomplished regular season, the Hornets then invaded the Perkinston Campus to meet the Stone County Tomcats for the annual Pickle Bowl Championship. The out- come of this vigorously contested battle saw East Central defeat the Tomcats by a score of 18- 14. Coach Pierce was later voted the Coach Of The Year in the Pascagoula River Conference. With wins over North Hancock, Leakesville, Van- eleave, Brooklyn, and OLV, the junior high tallied an over-all record of 5-3-1. For their outstanding performances on the gridiron, Terry Long, Phillip Scarbrough, and Randy Whitley were named to the A11 PRC team. Honorable mentions were Ricky Robertson, David Bullock, and Dempsey Hamilton. We think the baby Hornets should be commended for their outstanding per- formances on the gridiron, and we wish them the best of luck in their forthcoming football campaign. ,- j: .99 i x I fch'q ML: hi? m? - ..94 $MMQL3 +3149... - gqm'z'ri'e c-su-Hs- ii mung. -. ,-'7x7'-Iir6:' .. 1W I;:xr; W I1 NT 4 Point Getters '74 :'A:N .
