Amid a scene of red roses, the class flower, Mr. Yates’ strong voice rang out in the night, as he called the class roll and in so doing marked the reaching of a goal toward which seniors had incessantly moved for the past twelve years. Dr. Aubrey Lucas, of the University of Southern Mississippi, was the distinguished guest speaker, and his words, along with those of each of the night's speakers, while honoring past achievements, went a step further in opening our minds to the world of future achievements. As the coveted diplomas found their places in the hands of the Graduates of 1968, thoughts were drawn to the alma mater - to the sprawling institution a hundred yards away whose beloved walls seemed to echo the words of Winston Churchill: This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. It is rather the end of the beginning.
