Money Collected ls Put Into A General Security Account To Help Strengthen Security The l-ligh Price Gt Parking You turn over, rearrange your pillow, and peer at the alarm clock through half-open eyes, still caught in the grip of a deep sleep. All thoughts of catch- ing a few extra winks disappear from your mind as you stare at the alarm clock in disbelief. H7145 A.lvl.! the alarm clock reads, and you have a big test in your 8:00 class! You jump into a pair of jeans, throw on a T-shirt, grab the tennis shoes and the books and make a mad dash for the car. A comb is dragged through your hair as you cruise toward campus. Once on campus, the next problem is finding a parking place. You finally spot one only to find it is in staff parking - those wonderful parking spaces so conveniently located next to class. As you realize you have less than 2 minutes to get to class, you whip your car into the space. While dashing to class, you send up a quick prayer in hopes that security will not come by before you get through with your test fthe prayer of the hopeless optimistl. You speed through your test and rush to your car. Too late. You catch a glimpse of pink flapping happily under your windshield wiper, and you know it is not tickets to the next fundraising dance. After removing the incriminating piece of pink from your windshield, you and your car head off in search of a legal parking space. Later, as you are paying your fine, you wonder what security does with all the money it makes off you. As you walk out the door, you make a mental note to buy four more alarm clocks. Paying those fines is making a dent in your funds. It would please you to know that the money collected in fines is put to good use. Q '31- R XS' - 1. XXV 5.:.Xf , . Our school boasts some of the most beautiful girls in the state, if not in the nation. Evidence of this is seen in the numerous titles which girls on the campus have won - Junior Miss crowns, Most Beautiful crowns, Miss Neshoba County crowns are but a few. Each year in January, the time arrives for the most difficult decision of choosing East Central's Most Beautiful Girl, Most Handsome Boy, and Beauties and Beaus. This year's pageant had 52 contestants entered, and the judges were faced with the dilemma of deciding which young lady was indeed Most Beautiful. Next year when school opens, scores of beau- ties will once again enroll, and East Central's repu- tation as a school full of beauty will remain intact. .-.1 ,. , airs' , 70 . rw, f ' ' - f - 2, 5 .J Z' W -W . .1 - .. 4 l Z , , 4 V f . ,wg A, day, - , sl' ,M. f', C25 M ' M: f N fi if X r e- , L mes 524 W Ti? -V776 Aff f W H . ,, Y . f ,,. f. .fm , .fm . 1 f 1, V' 4.-1 'il 4 Z Q? fb-4 ms- gm -2 Oro O: 35' cn si cn 242 mm ': E. ... EC was now 1-5 with four 'R River Junior College and again played well but lost had to be the most difficult schedule in the state. The season started with a trip to Northwest Junior College where the Warriors lost a hard fought 29- 14 decision to a Ranger team that would be na- tionally ranked before the season ended. The next week found the Warriors playing at home against Gulf Coast, a perennial power house in the South Division. EC battled to the finish but came up short 10-6. The Warriors next traveled to East MS and picked up their first victory of the season by defeating the Lions 24-14. The fourth game of the season pitted the Warriors against Co-Lin in Wes- son. lt was a typical EC - Co-Lin slug-fest with Co-Lin coming out on top 20-14. As the season neared the halfway point, The Warriors enter- tained the Eagles of Hinds Junior College and watched the Eagles fly away with a 19-7 win. With the season half over, the Warriors found them- selves staring at a 1-4 record even though they were playing well. As the warriors entered the second half of the campaign they traveled to Pearl games remaining and the chances for a winning season were beginning to look slim. The Warriors then showed everyone what they were made of. They defeated MS Delta 21-7 and then on Home- coming knocked off Jones Jr. College 14-10. After traveling to Southwest Junior College where they skinned the Bears 15-10 the Warriors were 4-5 with one game remaining. And what a game that would bel The foe was none other than ltawamba Junior College, the North Division Champs. The game was played on the Warrior field but the sounds of the leather popping could be heard all over the state. lt was a vicious, hard-hitting battle with neither team willing to give an inch to the other. lt was truly a classic confrontation and when the dust finally settled, the Warriors had upset the Indians 11-3. With this victory the War- riors not only evened their record at 5-5 but also gained the much deserved respect they had been seeking. if 'Q 'hA'.. 1 it mil I V if ,t --ff. lg riff., ' . ' K f' ,. Much en- thusiasm prevailed before it was an- nounced that the band of 1986 would be one ot the biggest ever. Director Tom Carson was enthusiastic as he in- vited many interested students to try- out for the much sought after slots. When all was accounted for there were about 73 members of the Warrior's lvlarching Band. No one was disappointed as the per- formances were eagerly awaited dur- ing the halftime intermissions of the football games. One could find Warrior fans gathered to- gether on the mall to show support for the football team and to wish them luck on the upcoming game. lf weather was precarious, the rallies were moved inside to the Activity Center Gymnasi- um. The most popular form of pep ral- lies proved to be those centered around bon fires. The Warrior spirit in everyone was set free as the whoops and hoIlars could be heard echoing through the streets of Decatur. The cheerleaders, along with the warrior chief were responsible for initi- ating warrior spirit during pep rallies. The football team was represented each week by la couple of chosen play- ers who spoke some well-chosen words. But the main theme of let's Stomp 'Em always prevailed. Other highlights of the pep rallies in- cluded: the Centralettes performing a well executed dance to the Warrior Marching Band, under the direction of Tom Carsong and the weekly selection of the most supportive club or organi- zation attending each pep rally. Everyone was encouraged to attend the rallies - not only as a show of support for the athletes and coaches, but also as an example of that growing ECJC loyalty. ECJC's students really let that spirit shine! Scottie Chunn and the drummers prepare the crowd for The Warrior . For those who are basketball fans, Novem- ber means excitement as the teams prepare to open an- other season. Basketball at EC means many things to many people: To faculty and staff, sitting in the comfortable warm gym offers an opportunity to socialize while enjoying the game. To students, it provides a welcome break to study and class schedules. To families of the players, the season continues a tradition of traveling to see sons and daugh- ters play. To the coaches, it means a great deal of work and worry but a sense of accomplishment when the teams perform well. Yes, basketball means many things to many people, but to all people who support the Warrior teams, basketball means excitement. There is nothing like a last minute shot which sends the game into overtime or a quick steal to go ahead by two points. Basketball is a part of ECJC that continues to grow in importance each year. Faced with the possi- ble elimination ot the program, fans and supporters rallied together to keep the program alive. The East Central Baseball Foundation was organized by supporters in the five county area who were willing to work toward that end. The Board of Trustees and the Admin- istration expressed their support of a more vigorous baseball program and took steps designed to accomplish that goal. As an indication of the renewed in- terest in the baseball program, twenty- tive young men participated in fall baseball practice. Coaches Larry Gressett, Flicky Harrison, and Larry Blackburn were pleased with the pro- gress made throughout the fall schedule. ln addition to the new attitude on the part of the players, the field was given a new look as many improvements were made to improve the condition of the playing field. All in all, as the fall session ended, players and coaches looked longingly to the spring and a chance to do it all again. , , UV? ffyff ' 'w Batebalf Pfotfbg, PM Pm, Af EC! :Z L. .1 5:3 f K Y- . 4 34 I. : if Q is V 3- - .yum ,A .K gf ,fn ,A Q , Okay, Q , X4 . Certainly, there is much that could be appro- priately said on such an occasion. However, I would choose to focus my message upon my role as one who has accepted a position of ser- vice to others and to the cause of education. My message is one of commitmentg to our students, to our faculty, our state and nation, and to those elected officials who repre- sent the public trust in providing educational opportunities for our people. On April 30, 1986, the newly-in- augurated President Eddie M. Smith delivered these words to an audi- ence of East Central faculty, stu- dents, family, and friends. As they sat and listened, they probably would never have imagined how far this new young President would take the college in such a short time. Dr. Eddie M. Smith has served as President of East Central Junior College since 1985. An East Central alum- nus himslef, Dr. Smith is the sixth president to serve the college since its beginning in 1928. A man dedicated to serving the students of East Central, Dr. Smith's greatest concern as an administrator is to provide a better ambience for learning and teaching which permits freedom of ex- pression and allows for the un- daunted pursuit of each per- son's interests and career choices. Dr. Smith anticipates a con- tinued growth and curriculum expansion. Under his adminis- tration, the college is headed in a new direction, a direction which makes East Central Ju- nior College proud to have as its President, Dr. Eddie M. Smith. .Y l X as Z' it f ff? -1' I-..sA.ni. 'U ff 41 Qi . Nix .1101 ,A I .. President And Nlrs.
