We, as members of the Wo-He- Lo staff, students, faculty and administration at E.C.J.C. have every reason to be proud of our college. Academically she is a top rated insti- tution. The students of E.C.J.C. are blessed with adequate facilities- modern classrooms and laboratories and an adequate volume library -each of which is increasing yearly. Socially, E.C.J.C. can boast of her many fine clubs and organizations, along with all other interesting social aspects of the well-rounded social life of our campus. Religiously, she is staffed and prepared to give ade- quate and necessary guidance to all faiths. However, the blessings of E.C.J.C. students never stands still for there is always an air of expansion present to take care of the growing student body. An addition to the existing science building has been realized, a vocational and technical complex and a technological agri- culture building are nearing completion with construction already begun on a fine arts building. In 1968-69 we celebrate forty years of achievement and growth in property and prestige. We pay tribute to the far-sighted founders of this institution who had the vision to see what a community college such as this could mean to you. We honor those East Central graduates who, through the years, in the state and nation, have, by their achieve- ments, build up extended esteem her Alma Mater that the Wo-He-Lo of 1969 delights to extol. I J .QQ 30 STRONG Dates may be tedious, dry-as-dust figures, monotonous to learn and remember. Or dates may represent exciting peaks of history and experi- ence that stimulate over and over memories of thrilling moments that man and nations love to recall and to celebrate. The date of 1928 was only the prelude of many such memories in the minds of numerous individuals in the East Central area of the state of Mississippi. In that year East Central Junior College opened doors to experiences that would become golden opportunities to every high school graduate in the five counties of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston. Our MEast Central has progressed through four decades. Each stu- dent who comprises part of this total record enrollment must charge himself to continueto lift the standards and prestige of this institution which has contributed much to its district and is adding an increasing iniluence on the state. . The Hrst faculty at East Central consisted of two teachers. In forty years faculty members have increased to 42. They are well trained in their specific field and make learning and education at East Central a living experience. Even as the faculty has increased and improved, so the facilities and equipment have been supple- mented to provide practical knowledge to students in almost every field, As our world of today changes, so East Central keeps up with its pace, our qualihed instructors and leaders help us to live up to our name of College. The Wo-He-Lo staff and students believe that we have the BEST leadership and instructors that can be afforded. QUALIFIED INSTRUCTIO 'WM ,gn--1 Away w1eNr.X+x...+ LASTING PRIENDSHIPS Q-K 'The world's a stage . . f' With each year of East Ccntral's devel- opment, it is easier to see the part it was intended to play in the educational sphere of the district and state. School spirit increases as we play bigger and better teams in sports-and we have all kinds at East Central. The world of clubs and organizations and all other extracurricu- lar activities of the life at East Central exemplify its many lasting friendships. t Mp. f W We v 5 lb - 1--rl' f f? I' ROWTH New faces, new buildings are seen at East Cen- tral Junior College. Construction and renovation have never stopped over the years, and today it strains to provide classroom facilities for the ever- growing student body. The Vocational and Tech- nical Complex is now a symbol of hard work fulhlled in becoming a college. It and other build- ings that are also nearing completion are a phys- ical sign of growth which is definitely felt by each member of the student body, faculty and admin- istration. Hug-55 Miss Gladys Bryant-BSU Director DEDICATIO There are those that teach by standing at the podium of a classroom and giving information. They have their task and often it is done well. But there' are also those who teach, not by standing before a podiumr, but by walking among men--a lesson in living every day. Two of these are our very own--Miss Gladys Bryant and the Rev. John Lambert Neil, friends of the school but most of all friends of the student. -Bro. Neil's indefatigable spirit is the inspiration of youth and thc envy of adults. But his interest and concern for our students is immeasurable. He guides, aids and inspires not only the lNesleyans, but all groups who observe his untiring efforts to be of service, pointing toward Cod and a meaning- ful life. Kfiss Bryant. not here so long as Bro. Neil, but here for the second term of service, also inspires students to learn that becoming educated is devel- oping the whole mang physically, mentally and spiritually. Because she long ago learned to follow the gleam, she seeks to show others the way to a full life lived in fiodls plan. '11 '.,'-317:'5,.-.1-Sk 'Ir , Rev. John Lambert Neil-Wesley Director A poem written by Edgar A. Guest well exempli- Hes these two dedicated consecrated Christians: I'd rather see a sermon than hear one any day, I'd rather one should walk with me than merely tell the way. The eye's a better pupil and more willing than the ear, Fine counsel is confusing, but example's always clear, And the best of all the preachers are the men who live their creed. For to see the good in action is what every- body needsf' Professional excellence, personal greatness and strong dedication unite to engender two sterling individuals. Because of their outstanding service and con- tribution to East Central Junior College, the an- nual staff humbly dedicates this the 1969 Wo-HE-Lo to Miss Gladys Bryant, Student Secre- tary of the BSU and the Rev.
