PRESIDENT flbzaahu, ifilssluifzfpi May 15, 1951 Message From The President: The year 1950-51 has been a significant year in the life of East Central Junior College. It has been primarily significant because it has been a year in the lives of the people who work and live together as students and staff. The year has been significant in that we have seen many improvements in the physical plant. This will be known as the year that the Student Center first was opened and we all know what it has meant to us. This is the year that - - we had the new cafeteria and that has been a most outstanding addition. This is the year that -- we have added additional rooms in Jackson Hall and in which other improvements in that building were made. This is the year that- - we had the Gymnasium enlarged and improved. This is the year that-- many improvements were made in the men's dormitories. This is the year that- - additions were made in the Agriculture Department. This is the year that-- we have had the largest enrollment in the history of the college and the largest increase from one year to the next. This is the year that- - we had more student leadership in student and college affairs of the college to date. This all means that East Central Junior College is a live and growing institu- tion. This will challenge the loyalty and responsibility of every student and every faculty member to keep the college alive and keep it growing and improving. Y: rs truly, . Q kid S- L. Ox. The Wo-He-Lo and the Tom- Tom attempt to thus serve this E. C. I. C. institution through that media. The Wo-He-Lo strives to preserve a record of the achievements of the student body as a unit into a well-developed. well-integrated institution. It is not meant to preserve the achievements of the individual but of the student body. Through these publications the administration speaks to the students and their parents conveying ideas for the stimulation and giving official informa- tion. They also serve as a means of recognition to those who deserve it. The staff members of these publications gain invaluable training and experience in the field of ioumalism. Head Coach Hillery Horne and Backfield Coach Iohn Grace administered coaching skill to the fullest extent to forty eager young men who came to East Central Iunior College because they had that inner desire to play foot- ball and to bring to their school triumphant victories. Eleven players returned to East Central from the 1949 squad and a horde of Freshmen talent added their skill to Coach Horne's system which gave eleven junior colleges stiff competition during the three months. Yes, the 1950 season was a great year for Decatur- the players scoring the victories and the student body behind them at every game. y Q if f 'ffff 'xv f, 1 ye! gf x I was t E3 '- Z 1 ft , Co-Captains, Pope and Donald C. Almost the entire game was played in Moorhead territory with the Trojans threatening only once and this during the last quarter. There were two outstanding plays by the Warriors. The first outstanding play was the opening kick-oft when Sam Miley raced ninety-one yards for a score. aided by the precision blocks by the Warrior line-men and a key block by W. S. Donald. G. Rives' skill at tackle was aptly used and became a deciding factor. This game was a rough one. Decatur was penalized 100 yards. The Warriors actually scored three touchdowns but one was called back because of a clipping penalty. It was the Saturday night of October 28, and we all piled into cars and busses and went over to Meridian's Bay Stadium to play Scooba. Now Scooba was the pre-game favorite and had been beating the socks off everything they had met. They even had cr feeling that they would go to the Little Rose Bowl. Scatbacks Charles Duffy and Earl Williams and line busters Sam Miley and Tip Canady gained Decatur an early lead which held throughout the game. Playing professional type football the Warriors even held the heavy Lions for four downs on the one foot line. Rest was in order after this victory and a rest it was for we had no school the following Monday. I im Iohnson Wyatt Davis 4-G W.
