MESSAGE FRO Ze !Qfe:5ic!enf To fhe Graduafes of I948: You who are lgrarduafing fhis year can remember, and you will always be remembered as having been fhe largesf freshman class ever fo enroll up fo fhis fime. Yours was fhe firsf class fo enroll in large numbers following fhe end of World War Il. When you firsf came fo fhe campus fhere was evidence on every hand of efforfs fo house you: unfilled difches for sewage and wafer lines, unfinished buildings and fhe campus gen- erally dishevelled in appearance. The problem is nof as acufe now as if was when you came, buf fhis insfifufion and every ofher insfifufion fo which sfudenfs wenf in large numbers has had a fremendous faslc fo provide facilifies for feaching, feeding, and housing you. You probably have already forgoffen fhe lack of hof wafer, heaf, or fhe inconveniences of living in a frailer courf. These may be pleasanf memories in fhe years fo come. Mosf of you were men who had served in fhe armed forces of your counfry and you had problems of social, moral, and infellecfual reconversion perhaps as urgenf as fhe physical reconversion on fhe campus. When 'rhe hisfory of fhis counfry is fold, one of fhe glorious chapfers in if will be 'rhe sfory of fhe worlc done on college campuses from I946 fo I948 by 'rhe fine young people who were fhere. lf is a greaf privilege fo be alive and fo worlc af fhis parficular fime. The friendships 'rhaf we have all made and fhe growfh fhaf we have experienced during fhese years, we shall ever cherish. DR. L. O. TODD.
