PRESIDENT To THE SOPHOMORE Crass: There is only one message at this particular time. This nation is at war. Everything in your life now and in the future depends on the out- come of it. The peoples of this and other na- tions have been tried in the past in the fiery crucible of war. Many of the faults and inferi- orities will be burned up as dross. During the process indolence, selfishness, the lack of train- ing, of initiative, and the will to command and achieve will show up now in individuals and in the nation. Great good will come from our band- ing together in this common effort, yet all of it will not be good. Great damage may come to some of our moral standards here at home. Group hatreds toward other races and peoples have been developed. At home, sectional and class hatreds will have a fertile field in which to work. It is in times like this that young people have the opportunities that will test their metal. The toughness of their moral libre will be tested to the fullest. The amount of good will and selfish- ness will become known. This is my message to every graduate: do your full part in the war effort. At least one of your fellows. a graduate of 1937. has died in action: many of us may be called on to make the same sacrifice. During the war keep your head high and your chin up. After the war do your best to see that we have a decent world to which war will not come to settle issues that could be settled in the making of the peace. If you do this, you will be worthy graduates. FACULTY rw -if had i f t if . -a, .af I gf., V ' 'P 'f i' . . r r A4 .-,. f . ,WM x , Nl: ti. H. .lonxsox NIR. l. W. SULLIVAN FflCllIf-Y Advisors PURPOSE We. the members of this club. wish to express our sincere belief that Agriculture is the most important labor of man. History teaches us that the foundation of any civilization lies very near the soil. If we are to prosper and maintain our present civilization. we must stress this point. Agricultural work must move forward and not backward. We. as a group. join hands in an unsellish effort to stimulate our farmer friends in regard to soil conservation. If agriculture is to be stabilized. our soils must be stabilized also. May we always consider what we take from the soil and what we put back. We must make these factors equal if we are to succeed as good farmers and citizens. Our slogan shall always be. Greater yield and better soils for America. Tel FUI? was AI.
