DEDICATICDN IN THE BACKGRGUND of every great under- taking there is some one, who in his own quiet way, through sacrifices and efforts unknown to others, has made possible the realization of a dream. More than a quarter of 'a century ago a man had a vision for the youth of this area which culminated in the establish- ment of Newton County Agricultural High School. Fifteen years later this same man, realizing the oppor- tunities for wider service of such an institution, turned his efforts towards the establisliment of a junior col- lege in connection with the Agricultural High School. Today East Central Junior College stands as the em- bodiment of his dreams and efforts, offering to its students a program of rich cultur-al development. man is Mr. VV. C. Mabry, who has been chairman of the Board of Trustees of these two institutions con- tinuously f or the past twenty-five years. As an evidence of our deep love and respect for him and of our 'appreciation of his untiring efforts in our behalf, we dedicate to him this 1939 XVO-HE-LO

I-IISTCDRY In the fall of 1928 a small group of students--twenty in number-enrolled at East Central Junior College, then known as Newton County Agricultural High School, and pledged their faith in the junior college movement then in its infancy in Mississippi. Beginning with small equipment-no laboratory, no li- brary, not even classroom facilities-with nothing, in fact, except the sheer will to hold on, this band of faithful students and two college teachers bore the travail of that first year out of which came East Central Junior College. Though only ten years old, it now takes its place with other great junior colleges of the state, fully equipped, and with an enrollment that has increased from the faithful twenty and a faculty of two teachers to more than four hundred students and a faculty numbering twenty-three. East Central Junior College builded on Faith, serving the most worthy area in the State of Mississippi, looks out on a new day and the Spirit of the school says: On to victofryg True welll ever beg Steadfast and loyal to our E. C. J. C.
