Each appointed mem- ber serves for a period of six years or until his successor has been appointed and quali- fied. The Trustees prescribe the course of study, retain all rights and titles to property acquired for the use and benefit of the college, and report the operation of the college biennially to the Governor before the meeting of each General Assembly. Messick has led the college during a period of phenomenal growth. He has witnessed the enrollment mushroom and the physical plant almost double its size. Under his leadership, the college has established itself as one of the foremost institutions of higher learning in North Carolina. President Messick holds a Ph.B.
