tLe President To the Graduating Classes: Your senior year, graduation, com- mencement. In accompanying my mother, as a small boy, at a college commencement program, I asked her, Why are the exercises called ' com- mencement ' when the students are graduating and finishing their studies? Yes, they are finishing their studies, she replied, but they are just commencing their life ' s career. This statement has remained with me throughout my life. I wish that I could impress upon you that your college diploma is not the symbol of a con- clusion or an ending, but the com- mencing point of a life of service to your fellow man. So with your diploma as a symbol of your preparation for a useful life, go forward, as I am sure you will, and be ashamed to die until you have rendered some real service to the world. Dennis H. Cooke, President tL RDmmiSTRRTIOn Annie L. Alorton Dean of Women Dr. R. J. Slay Academic Dean

OLir DERnS There is but one straight road to success, and that is merit. The person who is successful is the person who is useful. I am hoping that the seniors who leave us this year to take their places in the professional field will remember always the motto of their Alma Mater, To Serve, and through service become useful, successful citizens. Annie L. Morton, Deun of Women To Serve is the motto of your Alma Mater. Will you not therefore keep this motto ever before you as a constant reminder of your duty to others when you go out into the various fields of endeavor. To serve others is a noble trait and like bread cast upon the waters will bring the richest returns. Dr. R. J. Slay, Academic Dean y Imeteen J iAndmd avid odt 6euen JR. HOW RD J. McGlNMS r. I).
