VA-BOOM! 4 TWO HUNDRED YEARS seem a long time when you're in high school. But in the story of mankind, it was only yesterday that a young militiaman stood before a rude bridge at Concord and fired the shot heard 'round the world America had begun its quest for independence from Great Britain. ON THE COVER Fireworks explode over the Washington Monument and the White House as the Capital leads the Nation in celebrating two centuries of independence and freedom TO THE GOVERNORS of the fifty states, our thanks for providing the color photographs used in this Bicentennial edi- tion. In America's Bicentennial year, the editors examine what it was like to be a young American at a typical American high school.
