H. ek x ka OFFICERS Pres Howard Schooley Sec Jack Hanna Treas Tom lcKee Sentinel Larry Book Reporter Jim Kennaday THB EAST BROOK F F A The East Brook Chapter of Future Farmers of America was chartered September 18, 1958 by the Keystone Association with 25 charter members This year there are 38 members with eight associate members Our Advisor, lr Howard Fox, having taken leave of absence for the year, was replaced by lr Hugh White, a very capable leader, who instructed us for the first semester Mr White was called into the service of our country and the vacancy was filled by Mr George Zamiskie, our present instructor The activities of the F F A vary with the seasons, we sold Christmas Cards and vegetable seeds and planted trees to raise money for our trip in the Spring of 1950, that we took as an award for winninn First place in the Slippery Rock judging contest The trip was to the Wooster Chic experiment station, where we made a tour of their farm and in the evening we journeyed to Cleveland to see a baseball game ls judged livestock at the Stoneboro Fair, competed in the tractor driving contest at Butler Farm Show, and when school started in the fall, our interest centered in closing our project books for the year Our projects consisted of farm crops, small fruit, poultry, gardens and various kinds of livestock In the area Lawrence, Butler, Beaver Co project contest, we placed third le also had two awards in the state contest le had three boys that were awarded the coveted Keystone Farmer Degree at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show, Harrisburg, Pa. in January 1951. They were Robert Smith, Larry Book, and Keith lc Connell. Keith was also named the outstanding Future Farmer of Lawrence Co. by Pomona Grange. He has been active in the F. F.
