We Dedicate Gur Yearbook to Mr. Albert Kiellerstedt Hmm, what shall we do today? I think we'll read. 'x .. 'M yi 'LQ--9, M' If I were sitting here and the whole outside world were indifferent to what I was do- ing, I would still want to be doing iust what I am. Mr. Kiellersteclt, you have been a true friend to us. But more than a friend, you have helped us in partic- ular, on the yearbook and many others through the Argus, freshman basketball, and your classes. You have overlooked our forgetfulness, our carelessness, and our incon- sideration. You have made us look within ourselves and laugh, you have pushed us farther along the road to maturity. Your calm resolu- tion and your perspective of life have taken away our anger and substituted understanding. How can we say thank you to a man who has done all this? We could have offered you a gift, presented you with money, but that is too meaning- less for you. Instead, we chose to work many long hours to produce this yearbook for you. The 7964 Torch is only the tangible embody- ing the intangible-our admiration. Therefore, we dedicate our year- book, which is so all-important in our Senior year, to you, our Mr. K. I like to read. if a Man Who Is Himself Dedicated What do you 'think of that? Hmmmm! Chuckie, Chuckle. V i 5 A , A -M.. Nwwnw-srsvuwwim .,..,....,....,.............f...,..,-, jfey grouyff fo us . . Prin ipal' Message And This our life exempt from public haunt finds Tongues in tree, books in the running brook Sermons in stones and good in everything. William Shakespeare, As You Like It The enioyment of reading, the identification with the printed page emotionally as well as intellectually which characterizes the effective read- er, is an important characteristic of the educated adult. To those who have learned the secret which transforms the printed page from abstract symbols into meanings which carry personal sig- nificance, reading of books becomes and remains a source of personal sat- isfaction for which there is no sub- stitute. With the library a vital part of your life and the librarian as your companion, books become your magic carpet. Reading then, becomes your passport into other countries. You meet other people, visit in their homes, travel their roads, share their experiences, and your ideas are stim- ulated. What fun, what a deeply satisfying experience. Sincerely, Raymond Hamilton Principal X169 opporfunzgf X0 Qarn uperintendenfs Message Class of I964: I would like to impress upon you the following considerations- Each of you really counts. The world will be a little better-or a little worse-because you have been in it. It is my sincere hope that you will show initiative in making even the slightest effort to change it for the better. There's nobody quite like you. You have been assigned a personal mission in life to fulfill that has been given to no one else. And it is up to you to carry through to the best of your ability. You are important. No one will ever be in exactly the same circum- stances or be offered the same op- portunities as you. Each has an eter- nal value for what he is and does. Do what you can. Recall the old saying I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do, And what I ought to do l will do. Sincerely, Stanley B. Goldman Superintendent of Schools Vice-Prin ipalg Guidance MR. JOSEPH F. MOREY, Vice-Principal Director Everywhere one turns, they will, no doubt, find Mr. Morey adding his humor and wit to the normal pro- cedures of everyday school activities. Besides being a coach and teacher, Mr. Morey has numerous iobs to fulfill in assisting our principal. There always se-ems to be a steady stream of students to the guidance office. Why? The answer lies in the personality of our new guidance director, Miss Mary C. Anderson. In addition to having ample time to listen to each student's problems, aiding seniors in college plans, and planning the curriculum, she finds time to be advisor to the Student Council and Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleaders. Miss Anderson has gained the admiration, friendship and respect of all stu- dents in the short while she has been here. MISS MARY C. ANDERSON, Guidance Director iishsom..- - MISS BARBARA LIGHTFOOT RN Personn I There is an old cliche ThaT goes, Behind every good man There is a woman. This seems very apropos here. Behind Mr. HamiITon and Mr, Goldman There are Two women, Their secre- Taries. Mrs. AIberTa Poole is indispensable To The PrincipaI's office. IT is she whom boTh The sTudenTs and facuITy depend on. Mrs. Blanche Spear, Mr. GoIdman's secreTary, manages The business of all Three schools. Miss Barbara LighTfooT, The nurse, comes inTo much conTacT with The sTudenTs, boTh when They are ill and when They like To be ill. She has iniTiaTed a new club inTo our school, The FuTure Nurses of America, and members are given The opporTuniTy To work with her as clinic assisTanTs. MRS. Class Advisor Wm QDOIZGH jaefcfam The Class of 1964 entered East Bridgewater High School with but vague knowledge of how a high school operates. A guiding force was a necessity. The school, therefore, appointed Mr. Donald Ketcham to advise us in our endeavors. This he has done. From the framing of a constitution to the senior week activities, he has always been willing to extend a helping hand. L' A , The greatest On Friday, the 'l3th of December, the cast of January Thaw summoned its last bit of courage, armed itself with words of confidence from friends and relatives, and faced the audience. Frightened we were, but somehow man- aged to remember all those lines, and even to come in on the right cues. After the performance, a sigh of relief es- caped The lips of every member of the cast. We had all worked very hard, but now felt .Xu . , i 3' L N show on earth rewarded for our efforts. The play is over, and we have only fond memories of the days spent in preparation for the big night. The fun at rehearsals, the helping-hand given us by the Senior class, and even that feeling of queasiness we all experienced toward the endg these memories will remain with us for a long, long time. Much of the credit for our successful performance goes to our excellent director, Mrs. Malloy. Shelving, processing, mending, and display work are only a few of the projects involved in library work. Many will agree that working with Mrs. Hynes in the library is a very rewarding experience. All school activities seem to revolve around the friendly atmosphere of the library and Mrs. Hynes. However, they labored to improve our team, as did Captain Bruce Houde. Practices were long, the days were hot, we played Han- over in the rain. But we continued to play hard. We did not win, but neither did we give up. Although the season was dis- appointing, the team played because they enioyed football. But more im- portant, because they wanted to sup- port our school. E.B.H.S. did not lose enthusiasm for the sport, and at- tendance was high. The Blue and Gold were represented by sports- manship and spirit, rather than vic- tories, in the 1963-64 season. This in itself is a worthwhile accomplishment for a rebuilding year. The team being composed mostly of iuniors, faced a rug- ged season with inexperienced players. Lack of height as well as lack of real scoring threat, however, proved to be a handi- cap when the Easties faced the taller, more experienced op- ponents. Easties made up for it woth the good spirit and fine sporstmanship characteristic of East Bridgewater High School. COACH: MRS. VIRGINIA LOVERING Field Hockey The Easties' spirit is increasing. For the first time a rally was held in behalf of the field hockey Team which spurred them on to three victories. A junior varsity cheerleading squad was organ- ized to appear at all their games. This not only intensified the spirit, but the attendance and interest has increased. The future of field hockey at East Bridge- water High School looks bright. Mrs. Lovering commented, This is the best season that we have had, and we are looking forward to a much better season next year, as many of our ex- perienced players will be returning. First Row: N.
