CLASS HISTORY It was a warm summer morning 1n July when the old man awoke from a dream of rem1n1scence of h1s past school days The dream began 1n 1948 when he entered seventh grade This year the member ship of the class was greatly 1ncreased by pupils from Sugarcreek and Perry Townsh1ps The dream was so real that he could actually see the confuslon he had experlenced chang 1ng classes for the f1rstt1me He could st1ll remember the enjoyable t1me he had l1sten1ng to the jokes of his homeroom teacher Mr Percy Bartow The tr1p at the end of the year which xncluded Fort P1tt Carneg1e Museum and Kennywood proved to be very exc1t1ng Although the work got more difflcult 1n elghth grade lt was a very enjoyable year w1th Miss Margaret W1ant as h1s homeroom teacher A number of exc1t1ng thmgs happened that year Eighth grade won f1rst pr1ze at the Mardl Gras for the1r presentat1on of TOM SAWYER Jim Hoffman and Catherine Harmon were awarded the Amer1can Leglon and Amer1can Leg1on Aux1l1ary Awards He could st1ll see the map he had made of East Brady w1th the blocks and streets of each sect1on of the town He once aga1n had the proud feelmg he had when he was presented w1th his writmg certificate after many months of round round ready touch At the end of the year the class took a tour of Clarion County where they V1Sited the Peanut Butter Factory Pmey Dam and Cook s Forest In h1s freshman year the class was d1v1ded 1nto two groups s1nce lt was agam mcreased w1th students from Brady s Bend and Washmgton Townshxps H15 homeroom teacher was Mr John Banjak and the homeroom teacher of the other group was M1ss Norma Flsher Again 1n n1nth grade h1s class rece1ved f1rst prize at the Mardl Gras for acting out the1r verslon of the new h1t song The Thlng He could remember how pleased the class was at belng represented on the Jun1or Varslty basketball squad for the f1rst t1me The Jun1or Varslty cheerleaders were also four freshman gu'ls He V1V1d1y recalled the assembly that was presented by the freslunen that year It was a humorous story What s 1n a Name wrltten by Mr Banjak The class tr1p was to Carnegle Museum and Kennywood Aga1n m h1S sophomore year the class was d1v1ded H1s homeroom teacher was Mr Val Zellers wlule the other class sponsor was M1ss Loretta Hlcks Th1s was not so busy a year as former years had been but lt was an enjoyable one He recalled makmg h1s dec1s1on of choosmg the correct course of study that would help h1m 1n a future voca t1on S1nce the class was not allowed to take a tr1p at the end of the year they had a picmc at the Narrows Inn In h1s Jumor year the class was back together m one room w1th Mr Robert Kerr as then' homeroomteacher It was avery busy year The1r play Seventeen IS Terr1.f1c dlrected by Mrs E11zabeth L1ntz proved to be very exc1t1ng He once agam recalled the enjoyable t1me he had at the prom dancmg to the mus1c of Frltz Waldon s orchestra The theme of the prom was Even1ng in Par1s He could remember the exc1tement before Chr1stmas when the class r1ngs arr1ved Eleven members of the class were mducted 1nto the National Honor Soc1ety Only one more year remalned before h1m At last he had reached the top the senlor year Th1s year Mr Bxttenbender was then' capable class sponsor The semor play The Mountam House Mystery dlrected by M1ss Nancy Curry was very good we thought The yearbook 1n the charge of Donna McK1nney and the Newspaper ed1ted by Catherlne Harmon proved very successful James Beham was awarded the C1t1zensh1p Award and Donna McK1nney was chosen to represent our school at the Laurel Fest1val He remembered the enjoyable t1mes he had at the Alumn1 Banquet and Athlet1c Banquet The valedlctorlan of the class was Catherlne Harmon and salutatorlan was Wllma Lemmon.
