If we have attained this goal, our efforts shall not have been in vain. May you derive as much enjoyment from these reminiscences as We have in recording them for you. ' THE EDITOR. TODAY WE FOLLOW I I I A well prepared mind hopes in adversity and fears in prosperi- ty. -HoRAc15. ln all matters, before beginning, a diligent preparation should be made. The schools of the Nation have been set up to give you this preparation for real life. Habits, drills, techniques, definite objectives, and discipline should pay their ultimate reward in carry-A ing undertakings through to a distant goal. Your training has been intelligently directed and not left to chance or luck. You can allot to yourselves enough tasks to fill a creditable day and you are able to keep at those tasks automatically, to a reasonable degree, without strain and with no strong emotion except a feeling of personal satisfaction. Political leaders, labor unions, industrial magnates are deeply concerned with post-war employment. You should be just as ingr- ested in your duty to work, your inalienable right to work in your post-war security. Fortunately, you should bear no permanent scars of aimless idlenessg but, remember that many can't play a violin even though there has always been a fiddle in their room. E. CULLEN, Principal. Y Closs Officers LEROY HOFFMAN, President 66444 QI945 'lihis is a subject We always hate to bring up--especially when most of our predecessors have felt the same as we do now. lt seems like only yesterday that we entered this institution of higher learning. We remem- ber how expectant, excited and nervous We were as Freshmen. Gur initiation by upper classmen had Worried us considerably, and wha! an initiation that was l I ll In our Sophomore year, our teachers soon found us a happy and industrious group of pupils. The big event of this year, naturally, was our Freshmen-Sophomore Party-which turned out to be a great success. Our class oiiicers this year were: President, Joseph Torres, Vice-Presi- dent, Louise di Pramperog Secretary-Treasurer, Olga Battistoli. lt was fun coming back in our Junior year, strutting up and down the halls with the nonchalance of upperclassmen. One great event stood out as our social goal of that year-the Junior-Senior Prom. Under the direction of our class sponsors, Miss Perrone, Mr. Marconi, and Mr. Virgin, our play, 'APeck's Bad Boy, was a great success. Clt was also CARL HANSON, Vice President KATHLEEN KURTZ, Secretary OLGA BATTISTOLI, Treasurer CLASS OF 1945 lContinuedJ the most important means by which we raised the funds to finance our Promg-with Lee Barrett's Orchestra, and the slick dancing of East Beth's Junior classmen, I ask you, How could it be anything but a suc- cessimj Our officers that year were: President, Joseph Torres: Vice- President, Carl Hanson, Secretary, Louise di Prampero, and Treasurer, Thomas Komlo. Before we go on with anything else, we feel it's only proper that we mention our Junior and Senior athletic stars, who Were: Carl Hanson, Leroy Hoffman, Henry Abbadini, and Howard Placchi. VVe, as well as the faculty and fellow students of East Beth, point with pride to these gridiron stars. One of the saddest events of this year was the death of one of our dear classmates, Rosalie de Vincent. In our Senior year, we felt quite old and mature, but most of us were still somewhat dazed to think that we were really and truly Seniors. This would be our last year here, rather hard to believe. We were guid- ed this year by: President, Leroy Hoffmang Vice-President, Carl Hanson, Secretary, Kathleen Kurtz, and Treasurer, Olga Battistoli. ln spite of the fact that we were forced to postpone our Senior play, Mumbo-Jum- bo, it proved a terrific success. Of course, due credit should be given Mrs. Alice Strosnider, our sponsor and Miss Horner, who was in charge of the 'between acts,' and also Mr. Virgin, who, along with a few of the Senior boys, put up the scenery. , In one of our class meetings, after much debate, we finally chosc OLlI'Z CLASS COLORS e.e.,. On commencement night we shall leave the halls of East Bethlehem High School. VVe are not leaving it for days, weeks, or months but for- ever. Now, as much as we regret it, it's time for us to say: So long, fellow students, we sincerely hope that your remaining years are as joyful and pleasant as ours have been. The class joined whole-heartedly into anything put before it. Dances and bond raflles contributed greatly to the class fund, but the main activity was the Junior Class Play, f'Cheese Cottage, held on March 16. The largest crowd ever to witness a play at our school attended. Of course, the culmination of the year was the Prom, held on May 10, with music by Lee Barret and his orchestra. After dropping the first game of the football season to a strong AA apponent, Brownsville, East Bethlehem proved their superiority in class B competition by defeating Carmichaels, Centerville, Ellsworth, and Ben- tleyville on successive Fridays. In the long awaited game with Jefferson, the Mid-Monongahela Valley Champs, the Bulldogs were defeated by a score of 27 to 7. The next Friday the boys lost a thriller to East Pike. Not all the games were won, but the sportsmanship was typical of the past teams. After losing the first two games of the basketball season to Browns- ville, by one and two point margins, the Bulldogs came back strong in class B tilts to defeat North Belle Vernon, Centerville, Jefferson, Ells- worth, West Bethlehem, East Pike Run, twice each. The boys lost the first game with Bentleyville but came back to defeat them in the second meeting. Carmichaels was the only class B team to defeat East Beth twice. At the close of the season, East Beth was second in Section 15: Carmichaels being in first place. ln the closing game of the season, East Bethlehem defeated Trinity, a class AA opponent, with a score of 42-32. As in football, East Beth, once again excelled in sportsmanship. Rosalie Chlurrayj Peters entering the store. Outside the store we saw John Clair and William Radachy putting in a new window which Thomas Sabo had broken. We were so aghast at seeing a sign, Joseph Torres, for President, that Nlary didn't see the on-coming auto driven by George Snyder. She awoke in a hospital with a bevy of familiar faces surrounding her. These nurses were: Kathleen Kurtz, Dolores Paler, Donella Honsaker, Julia Karnjate, Frances Di Andreth, hlary Karanovich, Lorraine Molk, Betty Gamble, Emma Jean Nloore and Betty Nicholson. Finding Mary did not require the services of hflor- tician Charles Croft, but only had a loose tooth, she was told to visit Dr. Herbert Seaton. Dr. Seaton told us that Leroy Hoffman of the Air Corps received his cap- taincy last week. He also said he had seen Gunner's lVlate Carl Hanson, who is now home on leave, talking to iXIrs. Grace CBubnesj Sadesky and Wanda Gossettc who is home on a vacation from her secretarial duties in one of our prominent cities, Washington, D.C. After leaving the office, We took a tour of the local university's campus. Who do we see but Shirley Kopelson and Olga Battistolil They told us that Florence Abraham was studying to be a math teacher and Paul Turina was coach of their championship football team. As we were leaving, the campus, we saw a huge poster which read: Championship Basketball Game, John Saladna's Rhode Islanders fznv. Robert Morgan's VVyoming Quintet. We would like to have stayed to see the game, but we decided to go to ldcller- mott's Theatre to see Howard Placchi De h1ille's sizzling production of Joseph Flapnick's great hook, Love's Afire, or Don't Put That Fire Outf' starring lVIarion lVloyes Lamarr, Edward Lancaster Boyer, Songstress Virginia Vasbinder and Come- dienne Helen Jean Natali. The rest of the cast included: Nlusic directed by Carmen Perrone, Script Written by Leverda lworris, Gowns by Angeline Pandocchi, and Drawing by Neil Davey. The previews of coming attractions showed us that the great singer Eary Brown, accompanied by Pianist Audrey Jones, would play Thurs- dav. lWuch as we hated to, we left the theatre. We were rather thirsty, so we went into Andy Holoka's drug store. An old classmate, Eleanore Gallagher, waited on us. As we glanced around us, we saw Elsie Brown and Lucille Buday sitting in at Conlimfrd on Next Pagr' 5 CLASS PROPHECY lContinuedl booth with some friends. Seeing the telephone reminded llflary that she had to call up Rrlildred Jay. At NIary's shout of f'Oh! what a pleasant surprise! , I came nearer and she informed me that Ethel lXTolitoris and Bertha Devecka were the tele- phone Operators. After Nlary had spoken to Mildred, we left. We had not gone far when we noticed a store window which read: f'Have Your Photographs Tinted Here, expert tinting by Antonette Falgiania and Angelina Lovetere. Looking through the window, we saw Henry Abbadini getting his daughter's picture tinted, and also Fern Rankin and Tillie Nlolitoris pinning on their factory identification pins, which they just had made. At the honk of a horn, we turned from the window in time to see Russell Mur- ray, Barry Rankin, lWike Saie, and John Kiefer riding past with several females. We left the window and had gone a few steps when we saw Dorothy Salko and Rose Campise emerging from a building. They were busy secretaries in a big business corporation. Then, almost as suddenly as it had appeared, the crystal darkened and our images disappeared. We gladly paid the fortune teller and went away with a big smile, happy that the future held such wonderful events for our fellow classmates.
