FOR C SHARP MAJOR, SEE SHARP MAJOR-ETTE Since music is said to wash away from the soul the dust of every-day life, do you wonder why it has been so pleasurable to the student body of East Bethlehem to hear the auditor- ium ringing with music-real band music-at assembly programs and pep-meetings, and even in the band's practice sessions? We're all proud of what this group has accomplished in such a short time, under the direction of the new music supervisor, Mr. Sporny. The faculty, too, has shown deep interest in the band's progress and it was the Teachers' Association at the suggestion of its president, Miss Ann Sokol, that instituted a community- drive for band-uniform funds. Thanks to their willingness to tramp from door to door, the band now proudly appears in uniforms, after the students were called upon for a last-minute dime campaign. The members themselves held a highly successful First Annual Spring Concert in order to raise funds for Maiorette uniforms. With a year already in its favor, we're ex- pecting big things from this group next yearl Already it has done much to bring that old time pep back to East Bethlehem. EVERYBODY, SING! The first Boys' Glee Club of East Bethlehem High Schoollllll The very words are animat- ing, and so have been their performances, par- ticularly at the Christmas assembly and the Spring Concert. At the beginning of the year, a proportion- ate number of basses, baritones, and tenors were selected, totalling thirty-five men. ln- terest was large, and has grown larger stead- ily, perhaps because singing expresses that which cannot be said, and on which it is impos- sible to remain silent. The members of the or- ganization because of their ability to express musically that indescribable something, have won the admiration of all the students. They graciously share their laurels with Mr. Sporny who has been their inspiration through- out the year. SWEET AND LOW Again we present for your approval East Bethlehem's Girls' Chorus which is not a new organization, but which has made great for- ward strides under the direction of Mr. Sporny. Once per week these fifty-seven girls met in the auditorium, and if one listened carefully, . . . music poured on mortals Her magnificent disdain. We recognized a new quality in their work this year: they were singing music, not merely words-fifty-seven soft voices blended beauti- fully in harmony. We wonder how anyone can dare say that music in a school system is a luxury. What it has given to East Bethlehem in renewed spirit and interest is not luxury, but sheer necessity. lt has been the greatest civilizing factor among our extra-curricular activities. Need any more be said?
