FIIID IIIHHE ll IIUTE 0F THIS, T00 . The forces of nature are tragically destructive, but the forces of man-made war are more woefully so, Re- member Pearl Harbor and Keep 'em flying are more to us now than mere epithets, they are challenges, real and unadulterated. The students and faculty of East Bethlehem High School have arisen as a body to meet the import of those challenges. Our ranks have been thinned to augment those of Uncle Sam, our time is being given without stint to local defense projects, con- servation has become more than a word flaunted idly in Civics classes, our dimes and quarters are being given in exchange for government bonds, and we're all saying those words, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America ..., with a new fervor and a quiet prayer that right shall still make might. Yes, war is destructive, but there are some things it can't destroy. Storm clouds have gathered, and suffering is rampant from pole to pole-but the flag still waves over America-and East Bethlehem. . . . One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. 9

Today's classes will meet a world clam- oring for the best you have to offer. You have but one life, think well. It is not who you are, or what you will be, but what you can do that counts.
