TABLE OF CONTENTS' ADMINISTRATION CLUBS SENIORS CLASSES .IUNIORS , ATHLETICS SOP HOMORES ACTIVITIES SCHOOL SCEN ES Page Scucn Page Eight i?4? K As one approaches adulthood through the years of adolescence, a most desirable outcome is that of self reliance or a disposition to depend more and more on his own efforts and decisions. It is during these formative years that he develops as an individual. It is the purpose of the school to contribute toward the realization of that aim. Early in life one must be disposed toward self support, with the proper potentiality of earning a livelihood. Most people work for others rather than being self employed. Thus, it is necessary to acquire and develop the proper attitudes and dispositions toward employment, .in order that one may endeavor to live comfortably and well. It is the purpose of the school tocontribute toward the realization of that aim. Family life and the home are important items in the life of everyone. The progress and safety of our nation, the perpetuation of our way of life, and the attainment of aspirations and ideals rests on the integrity of the home-everyone's home. It is the purpose of the school to contribute toward the realization of that aim. Somewhere along the way one develops a point of view toward life, a philosophy which will guide him in his personal activities as well as in his relationship with other people. That philosophy should be such that it will provide for full development of his capabilities, his opportunities, and his sense of responsibility in order that his life may contribute in fullest measure to himself, his family, his associates, and the American Way. It is the purpose of the school to contribute toward the realization of that aim. ' KZ, ADMINISTRATION Principal Dana R. Ervin at his desk. Mr. Ervin, who lives at East Bank, holds these degrees: B. The Football team was composed of many sophomores and juniors and this resulted in an inexperienced team. There were only seven seniors in the entire club. The Pioneers lost seven games, tied two, and won one, although they played hard and gamely. The schedule was one of the toughest played by East Bank and consisted of Oak Hill, Mt. Hope. Hinton, Stonewall Jackson, Charleston, South Charleston, Triadelphin of Wheeling, Huntington East, Saint Albans, and du Pont. The return of many under classmen and the expectatiohn of some promising sophorores from our junior High Schools, makes the prospects for 1949-50 look very bright. The rest of the team was made up of sophomores and iuniors. The Basketball schedule was also filled with tough teams and although the team lost several games, they were never by very decisive scores. The Pioneers drew a Cbye in the Hrst game of the sectional tourna- ment held in the local gymnasium. Playing Seth in the championship game, we won 39-36, thus winning the sectional crown and a chance to play in the regional tournament held at Charleston. The team fought hard but was beaten by Stonewall Jackson 61-45. The Basket- ball team did not have much success and ended the season by winning seven games and loosing fourteen.
