Student 0uncilplansEnlightne1', omecomingg 4-I 3,,.F 1l iiSv 'l'o encourage the practice of good citizen- ship in the school and in the community was the goal of the 1959-60 Student Coun- cil, the student governing body of East High. Active since 1917, Student Council provides for the vc-ice of student opinion, promotes better student-teacher relations, and develops leadership, high ideals, and better school spirit. In September, the Enlightener, a pamphlet containing school information and regulations, was distri- buted. An orientation day on September 2, helped initiate all new students. It was decided to continue the production ot' VVhoIs Who, the student directory, and the work of compiling it began. In the fall, codes for correct and appropriate dressing apparel we1'e established to act as guide- posts for all students. Student Council officers from East and West High met and set up regulations concerning behavior on the night of the East-West football game. Changes were made in the proce- dure for electing new cheerleaders, and Student Council helped to pay for the cheerleading uniforms. Campaigning for Don Bauer, presidential candidate in the Student Council elections, Jim Bentcr, Larry Kreinbrink, Dennis Lowney, and Larry Beckmann display posters and wear decorated shirts. 14
