Var ity Cager Take Thirdg .500 Record In an exploding repetition of last year's performance, the varsity cagers. under the coaching of Mr. Metzger, fought their way to victory in the Regional tourna- ment. On VVest Aurora's hardwood in the first game of the contests, the Tomcat squad downed West Chicago 75-61. Fa- vored to come out second-best, the Red and Black dealt a 73-5-1 thumping to the Cadets from Marmion in their second tussle. Stepping into the finals, East defeated a hot quintet of Elburn hoopsters in an ex- citing 69-68 overtime victory. Moving to the Sectional, East's Tom- cats encountered an exceptionally tall, fast-breaking Rich Township team. Main- ly because they could not control the re- bounds or reach the ball, the yarsity was eliminated in a hard-played game by a score of 107-76. The Red and Black, strong in tourna- ment play, were by no means slouches in Big Eight competition. They completed a successful season. winning five games and losing five, in a tie for the third berth with LaSalle-Peru, whom East defeated by a score of 50-47. During the basketball year the Cats encountered and beat the Wiest Aurora Blackhawks twice by scores of 60-52. and 62-51.
