After 4 Year seen here. Some he remembers are Allmert Pike. Elmer Moos, lYalter lVitte, Jimmy Smith, Paul Patterson, Freddie Foster. John O'Neil, and Rudy Nebel. East High has produced great athletes and teams who have received many honors and thrills. but Mr. Davis believes the greatest thrill was the trip the football team of 1914 made to New York to play Hamilton Institute. In his 43 years of service to East lligh and the people of Aurora, Mr. Davis has held many offices, both as teacher and as an athletic director. One of the greatest honors was the naming of East Highs athletic field, Roy E. Davis field. Some of his other honors are President of the Teachers' Association, P1'esident of the Northeast Division of State Athletic Associations, President of the Fox Valley Coaches' Association t w i c e . Secretary- Forfy-ihree roses, each symbolizing a year of service uf East High, were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Davis at the Homecoming game by D. Ochsenschlager, alumnus. Treasurer of the State Coaches' Associa- tion, and his most recent award, the Merit Award Certificate of the State Coaches' Association. A brightly lit field with the band playing during the half, and a vast crowd-this is R. E. Davis field at every football game. The field was named for Mr. Davis in I947. Ro E. Davi Retire Athletic Director K' Roy E. Davis, athletic director at East High, retires at the end of the semester after 43 years of service. R. E. Davis stands beside his new Dodge, the appreciation gift he received from the alumni at the Homecoming game. Sitting behind his desk in room 11. Roy E. Davis, retiring athletic director of East High. recalls some of the panorama ot' his 453 years at East Aurora. In 1911. before even one world war or the atomic bomb had been thought of. Mr. Davis. with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ripon College, assumed the position ot' biology teacher on the faculty at East High. Interested in athletics. and in direct- ing the energies ot' others along athletic lines, he was given the position of coach and a little later placed in charge ot' the entire athletic program. Athletic di1'ector in itself is a big jobg it includes making schedules for all of the teams, hiring officials, taking care of finances and ticket sales, purchasing new equipment for athletics, and corresponding with other schools. Being a good teacher is also a big .iobg Mr. Davis has filled both positions admirably. Mr. Davis in looking back over his career at East High points out a few of East's all-time great athletes, some of whose sons and daughters he has since At home in the East High stockroom, R. E. Davis, director, checks basketball equipment. ,.., .,..---- 1,1-I i

This win coupled with the Maroon- Cavalier tie gave East Tomcats an out- right claim to the Big Eight title.
