The board, composed of eight elected members and an appointed secretary, worked on committees to recom' mend teachers and salaries, examine build! ings and grounds, and estimate the financial needs to operate the schools for the follow- ing tiscal period. The members met monthly with Dr. Gates, superintendent of the Iiast side schools, to consider every possible means of bettering education. This year the Board of liducation under- took a three-phase program to take care of the problem of increasing numbers of chil- dren in the schools. First they are increasing the number of classrooms from kindergarten through high school. Secondly, they plan to convert the present high school into a seventh, eighth, and ninth grade junior high school, to give students more opportunities in industrial arts, physi- Twenty-Four flllfilllilflfx OI- 1'llIf liU,'iRI7 Ulf liI7I'- fffi'l ION. shown at .1 ii-uni nircting, .irc Clifton F.
