However, this old proverb seems to be back- firing, for now the men are learning to cook! Could be that they don't trust the women, for it seems that the cooking classes have been invaded by an army of would-be-chefs. The most delicate and difhcult recipes do not stump the members of Miss Norman's cooking classes. Not to be outdone are those girls who are learn- ing the fine points of the art of sewing. The cos- tumes rated many ohs and ahs when they were modeled in the spring fashion show. All this and home course, too, come under the auspices of the Home Economics Department. INDUSTRIAL ARTS Iitaoinshrdlu-this is something an East High printing student wouldn't do, for Matty's boys never let printers ink confuse them. You couldn't befuddle a general shop student by asking for a left-handed monkey-wrench either. They not only know all the names of those tools, but they can use them, too. Some good-looking wood articles come out of the shop at junior High. William S. Bennett Ray W. Burgett The Industrial Arts department is really pre- paring East boys for future jobs. You may be sure that some of tomorrow's famous architects and en- gineers will be graduated from our mechanical drawing classes. Not an East High student groaning! It sounds like it's coming from the gym. Shall we peek in? -And now we see the reason behind these groans and grunts. joe's famed Commandos are being put through their paces. East High is not lacking in real he-men these days, nor she-women either! Not that we're trying to make feminine Atlases out of our East High gals, but exercise is import- ant to good health. But all work and no play makes a student a dull guy, so sports and games are prevalent, too. And speaking of health, the student is scarce indeed who cannot fold a bandage properly. These first-class first aiders graduated from the health class, you see. East students believe in being healthy, wealthy, and wise-with the ac- cent on healthy! Two years of gym and one of health are musts for everyone. Calisthenics are basic. -22-
