Ah, but that kind of statement isn't heard in our Art Department-they don't draw trees. The East High art student dabbles in watercolors, poster paint, colored chalks, and charcoal. Not only does he sketch and paint, but models in clay, carves soap, makes block prints, and designs flashy book covers. The Art Department also supervises the stage scenery for all plays, and performs that great service to the school-the never-ending task of poster making. Its work in connection with the junior Red Cross was a splendid con- tribution to East High's war effort. The Music Department includes Chorus, A Cappella Choir, Orchestra, Band, and Har- mony, all of which interest the student with a taste for music. In addition to furnishing the music for numerous school convocations, the class plays, the Christmas Cantata, and other school events these organizations often appear at Parent-Teacher meetings, Teachers' Insti- tutes, and other local programs. 2,,.,,..,,, .- - HUBERT DAVIS M. W. DAY EILENE DONNER ROWENA GALBRAITH EVA E. MARTENS Tell me, little chum, do you know why George Washington stood up in the boat while crossing the Delaware? And did you know that john Paul was one of the jones Boys? These are typical of the 21564 questions passed up in East High's de-luxe American History course. Seriously though, have you read Fight for Freedom or Our American Heritageu? American History classes know them. Most World History students can be found any time in the library, pawing through dusty volumes searching for Napoleon's tailor, or the more intricate clauses of the Magna Charta- burdening themselves with factual knowledge so as to be prepared when john Kieren retires. Progressing further through the Social Sci- ences, Civics looms on the right-for those who desire to wrestle with Superior Courts, Elec- toral Colleges, and Inter-State Waterways Com- missions, while on the left is Economics-for the student who wishes to mutter to himself incoherently as he catechizes on bureaucracy, autocracy, plutocracy, aristocracy, democracy, and the Psychological Effect Upon the Adoles- cent Mind of Detrimental Environment As Evinced In Criminal Tendencies. What is that tantalizing aroma 7' inquired a stranger roaming through the halls. That's Miss Norman's Foods class baking one hundred pounds of cookies of all flavors and shapes to be sent to various Army camps during cookie weekf, No, no sampleslu Of course some of the nice smell might have come from the cafeteria where students in Cafeteria Man- agement plan, prepare and serve our lunches. Wistfully watching the foods classes from the an- nex windows are the girls in the Clothing Depart- ment. Maybe you can't have your Cake and eat it too, but you can show off your dress or suit in the annual Spring Fashion Show.
