Now my tmnrlalion remix- I FIFTEEN J It is not difficult to find at East High students who know that Omnis Gallia tres portes dividit, for some students take Latin. It is also easy to find students who can give literal translations of Besame Mucho, for some others read Spanish. Parlez-vous francais? readily brings an answer, Mais oui, from the French student. Upperclassmen understand when one inquires, Sprechen sie Deutsch? In fact, East High is just full of talent for conjugating and declining. Classes of the Language Department do not want for variety. One day brings a movie of Mexico, the next a concert of Spanish music, a dramatization of Caesar, or a recorded lesson in French diction. Then sometimes for more serious purposes, text books are used too. In postwar days when we take our own heli- copters and go out for a short spin to see our friends in Mexico or Paris, how nice it will be to understand the traffic signals and be able to get around without using sign language.

The Science Department offers courses in General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and this year something new has been added -Aeronautics. Biology students chuckle ghoulishly as they examine the construction of an embarrassed crayfish, as an example of Class-Crustacean. The perfect Chemistry student remembers all his valences, can balance any equation in a flash, and rattle off the heat of formation of any substance-but who wants to be perfect? In the Physics classes, one wrestles manfully with the right-hand rule and meniscus lenses, mechanical advantages of pulleys, and Archi- medes Principle fsome Wish he had drowned when trying his bath-tub experimentsj. Aeronautics delves into the mystery of pre- flight for those who are anticipating military service, and deals with meteorology and aero- dynamics. AARON ALBRIGHT BERNADINE BURGE CLARENCE D.
