Our bodies thrive by the rich soil of the land. VVe are proud to be lured of matter and spirit, our eyes are as clear and as simple as the early morng we are the tomorrow. VVe are ready: we are prepared. Our parents set us on thc path to truth and justice, our teachers showed us how to apply these qualities to daily living. XVC see the road ahead. The community is looking at us with a quizzical eye. There is no fear. VVe will take our places in society, we will not disappoint. VVC are the products of :Xmerican education. VVe will carry the torch of our generation with firm hands, heads high pride, hearts filled with enthusiasm and youthful daring. VVe will pass on our heritage, enriched, full- blown, unsullied. lzitlzer ear A ELVEUS KIEFFER VVith only one short term left to complete his senior year, Spike passed away suddenly, leaving all of his class- mates greatly saddened. llis goal in life had already been established, a char- acteristic seldom found in most seniors, and had he lived, 'his determination would have surely enabled him to reach it. We all miss him, and hope that we can make him proud of his class and friends. There's my hand and mine, with my heart m zt The Tempest .7n ' IANET STRIEF As we close our high school days, we remember a classmate, Janet Strief, who parted from us in our sophomore year. Her smile and friendliness to those around her are pleasant memories to all who were her friends, and we all feel her presence now at the end of the long trail of study, even though she has passed away. He is well paid that is well satisfied. Merclwmt of Venice S I IILARY STIRLAND Our perky English lass has made a deep and wonderful impression on our school and its students during her stay here. Her sense of humor and fair play are a few of her outstanding character- istics. Hilary has won S25 in the county, and S50 statewise for her essay on Elec- tricit , and was presented with the World Peace key and S10 for winning first place in the VVorld Peace Speaking contest. Next vear Hilary will study medicine at the London University. We will always remember her and hope she may return again in the future. Q Y F xy If NAOTO IDE Naoto has done exceptionally well in conquering our language and customs this past year. lle has joined in on our parties, and helped us to have many good times. Ile has also enahled us to understand Japan and its people to a great extent, and we hope his country will know us hetter after his return. VVC are very fortunate to have had this dark- haired, sparkly-eyed boy as our exchange student at EA. VVe hope the memories ol' his stay will remain with him always. The Tempest Your Senior High School years have been disrupted by the closing of the Music Department rooms and the con- struction difficulties caused by the new Gymnasium and Swimming Pool addition. During all this disturbance you have carried on your work in a manner that has rought honors to you and to your school. We of the Board of Education wish to congratulate you on your achievements and to hope that your life from now on will be As You Like It. Donald T. Graves, President Board of Education amos i Eiiffw . inn. .an-M.. '1 'z' Con gratulationsl You have finished a task and a phase of your life. You all are eager for the next venture as you should be. A fine group of young Americans, we are proud of you as East Aurora students and sure you will be equally upstanding Alumni. lt seems to me that your choice of a theme for this, your Yearbook, implies that you seek to know and understand yourselves. For surely the exploring of those qualities that are mankind and therefore universal is the reason for the timeless appeal of Shakespeare. Continue to seek and explore and achieve those things, and all we wish for you in happiness and success will come your way, for you will have earned them. May the good Lord bless you and keep you. Mr. Walter Bumgardner There are 110 tricks in plain and simple faith. Julius Caesar dnnwcdftz FW .4.-is6issw19t5' Qksifiiv Your High School days have been full of new and exciting experiences. Man were challenging and happy ones-others may have bleen unsatisfactory and dis- appointing, but each in its own way, contributed to the complex pattern of growth and maturity. As individuals and as a group, the class of 1955 has made an excellent record for itself and your Alma Mater is proud of your achievements. llold firmly to the principle of choosing to do what is right, honorable, and worthy in the sight of God and your fellowman,.and your future experiences will be more radiant and joyous than ever. Best wishes and sincere congratulations to the class of 1955. hir. Thomas C. Moore To the class of 1955 - congratulations on your gradua- tion and best wishes for the years to come. You have made an admirable record at E.A.1'l.S. scholastically, and in your leadership of school activities. We will follow your progress with interest and hope that you have re- ceived the necessary education here that will make for a happy, useful life. Keep in touch with us and come back for a visit when you can. Surely there were many times when he won- dered: X'Vill this play he successful? Nevertheless, we know he simply worked with the materials he found at hand, adopted them, and embued them with his own personal touch. So you and l need to be faithful, and we will have joy for the present and perhaps even achieve for the future. Mr. Alfred ll. Richert Vlllll' time has eome when a chapter in your lives must close. Your high school days are over, hut it is with a sense ol' completeness that you leave. This being my first class in lfast .-Xurora, l have a deep sense of closeness to all who are graduating, so may l, as probably lVilliam Hliakespeare would have said to his first, May you all have the good fortunes that life can bestow upon you. hir. Vl'illiam lleehe af st gif 'M-s 54 S ' r i 1 :LA I 'e'. A A i I... f V 1 Q X ,F May I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your success. I hope in years to come, as you occasionally pull out your old yearbook and recall old memories, that they are all pleasant ones. We, on the staff, also pull out the old yearbook occasionally. It gives us a great deal of pleasure, fifteen or twenty years later, to look at your yearbook and feel satisfied that you have reached the peak of perfection you promised while you were with us. Best of luck for the adventure ahead. hir. H. Lewis hlclxleil The value of your education already has been proved to you many times. The real value of it, however, is recognized in the mature, responsible people you have become and will be in the futureg it will be recognized in the skill with which you will accept responsibilities, make decisions, and in the quality of service you will render. It is interesting to speculate how well you will perform in the major roles, the supporting roles, and in the hit parts that will be yours to plav. Inasmuch as your per- formance as the class of 1955 has been commendable, it is almost certain that you will not digress from so high a standard of performance in the future. Mrs. Mary V. GEORGE KELVER Mr. Kelver, although strict in his supervision, has brought our class many a laugh. His humor and good-naturedness are two of his outstanding qualities. Many times he has brought to our atten- tion the importance of accomplishing our many duties successfully, and gave us the spirit and go power that was needed. He has given us much of his time to cooperate with our every problem. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Kelver for a wonderful job. MISS EILEEN DIETRIGH Miss Dietrich has worked hard to make the class of 1955 a great success. Her interest and support in our every project enabled us to go on despite many disappointments and handicaps. Her popu- larity with every Senior will long be remembered. Our deepest thanks to Miss Dietrich for her un- ending loyalty and friendship to our class. MR. CARLO NISITA Without Mr. Nisita, our '55 yearbook would not have been completed. Although he gave us many helpful ideas, he never interfered with our own wishes. He believed that the yearbook was ours. He was always present to aid us in conquering our problems, which were many, and gave us much of his time. .We were very fortunate to have Mr. Nisita as our yearbook advisor. fx hmnffr Lv mrgumenf Em' at Fam mmrblg emit zz qpvzir ggi furvlrcr breaks Inugfgier 3 -of ,of G I Afflhltlfg g.II. .ISI l . -1 .A i . A da we will all remember for the rest of our lives. It is the day when all lower classmen look up to us and- hope that maybe someday they will reach that great goal. Each and everyone of us is thinking about the future. ome of us may be going to college, and some to work, but wherever we go and whatever we do, we, the Class of '55, will always try our best to be a credit to all who have so will- ingly given their time and effort to prepare us for the unex- plored chapter of our lives. With hearts beating wildly, we found ourselves in our never-to-be-forgotten Freshman year, which couldbe dubbed Our Comedy of Errors. This year we made lans for the Scotch Hop, our first dance. Although, none ofp us knew too much about dancing we all went and thought it a crowning event. Being very serious minded, we experienced our first Career Day. It gave us some idea of t e vast number of careers which the future would hold for us. Our Sophomore year had its joys and sadnesses. The loss of our dearly beloved classmate, janet Strief, will always be felt by all. In November we sponsored the most unusual social event of the year, the Levi Leap. All the guys and dolls turned up in, of all things for a dance, Levis! Later in the year, many of our classmates became members of the junior National Honor Society. Measure for Measure this was a very enjoyable year. The first few months of our junior year passed and soon the halls rang with the cheery cries of, Hey, gals, ot your guys for the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance? Cail Vliiss was chosen Daisy Mae and Mervin Baker, Lil Abner. Our Class is known for the different ways in which it does things, and so to live u to that reputation we planned a completely different junior-Spenior Prom, Manhattan Rendez- vous. The Romeo and Juliet of our Rendezvous were Nancy Cooley and Court McKeeman. Now it was time to prove that our class had, like past junior classes, amateur actors and actresses. We produced Once and For All. Our many thanks go to Miss Eileen 50 z all 1nen's lives. King Henry IV Dietrich whose capable direction made it such an overwhelm- ing success. We would also like to thank Mr. Norberg and Vliss Harp for their help. Envy and pride mindled together as twenty-three of our :lassmates were installed in the Senior National Honor Society. Donna McGrath, Betsy Minsker, Mervin Baker, and john Sunnin spent the months of july and August in Germany. Dur exciange students for the year were Naoto Ide of japan and Hillary Stirland of England. They have played a big part ln making our Senior year a happy one. As our Senior year draws to a close we take time out to .ook back on all the memorable events of our last year in EAHS. The first big glory of the year that brought joy and pres- :ige to all of us, was our undefeated football team. We all mow that our cheerleaders contributed immensely to our unde- Feated season. Our sincere thanks go to Miss Dietrich and Mr. ielver who so willingl gave up their Saturdays to help us 'nake the hot dog standy a financial success. All the Seniors participated in our magazine sale which Jrought us great acclaim, Many a pair of shoes were worn aut when we all went campaigning to help raise funds to pro- iuce our yearbook. The top salesmen were Carol Brickwell md James Shaffer. The second memorable event of the year was the presenta- :ion of Let Freedom Sing on television by the Senior Chorus. This beautiful narrative-script was written by Miss Dillon and iirected by Mr. Eaton. p Many of the Seniors and lower classmen rang in the New fear at the annual New Years Eve Dance. This year also had its sorrows. We will all remember the second tragedy of our high school days, the loss of our friend and classmate, Elveus Kieffer. Another gala event of the year was the Senior's annual :ld clothes day. This caused great confusion because the year- :ook staff pictures were taken, old clothes and all. Graduation brings us to the end of four very happy years. Ks we approach the conclusion of our high school days, one :hought enters our mind, All's Well That Ends Well. 51 S JL .,. au l .. tsl' S hits MOST ADMIRED Nunc Cooley Merv Baker FRIENDLIEST Pat Sheplcr Ham Wilscmn BEST DRESSED Jan Foss llugh Youngers L ,ss rc I QW W ' L M' 4. 5 A is 1 fx .M NICEST PERSONALITY Barb Frantz Court McKeemen lN1OST NHSCHIEVOUS Gail Certis Jim Shafer DID MOST FOR E.A.H.S Donna McGrath jack Blercer MOST LIKELY TO MARRY FIRST Lois Both Ron Neiman 'E . To Miss Stanbro: a shortage of senior girls To the Faculty: more nerves To the School: more assemblies To Future Seniors: determination and rewards To Senior Advisors: perseverance To Mr. Kelver: short homeroom periods To Miss Dietrich: a handsome male generation To Mr. Henry: a new voice To Mr. Nisita: stronger ribs To Cheerleaders: more undefeated teams To Future Classes: large treasuries To Naoto and Hilary: fond memories To Everyone Everywhere: world peace In witness thereof: we have hereunto subscribed our name - The '55 Aurorans 54 Q- Once and For All, a three act play by Sidney Duvall, was a big success. The play and its characters were well portrayed under the direction of Miss Dietrich and Miss Harp. Our thanks also to Mr. Norberg who advised the Stage-Crew. Under general chairman, Gail Weiss, these committee heads were selected: stage manager, Steve Apling stage crew, Merv Baker, pro- grams and tickets, Betsy Minskerg properties, Peg Woodruff, publicity, jack Putneyg and costumes, Nan Hanley. The play ran three nights, and tioltets were sold out each time. All participants enjoyed the satisfac- tion of contributing to this produc- tlon. We will draw the curtain and show you the picture Twelfth Night Une and foe All L ...A BJ For 3011 and I are past our dancing days. Romeo and Juliet Manhattan RCI1ClCZVOLlS,v our prom in 1954, was a great social event. All the committees were cooperative and hard working, adding to its success. Decorative models, constructed from paper and sparklers, hung from the ceiling, and outlines of the New York skyscrapers filled out the walls. This was a completely different idea in the schools history. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the queen. Nancy Cooley, and king, Court lVlcKeemen. Attend- ants were Mary Lou Bement, Barb Frantz, Merv Baker, and Tony l7rench. Art Dedrieli and his orchestra provided the music, and fun was had hy all.
