CLASS HISTORY from the Archives of the Class of 744: A class such as ours which has met in school or I2 years acquires an atmosphere o amil- iarity heightened by the presence o those with whom we have Worked played a ld grown up This class lnstory proa 1a'ev but a rameworfe to which each o HY mutt aftacfn his own memories Painting flower pots and striving to be good citizens the little things we did and learned in the elementary grades seen ed big to us then And in a few years what special dis t1nCt10I1 of seniority was ours as sixth grad ers' Our part in the operetta Tom Sawyer was proof of that Sonny Rhoads played Tom Paul Ingalls played Huck Finn Dor othy Squires was Amy Lawrence and Betty Mack was Beckv Thatcher In our freshman vear the class of 44 was pepped up by the folks coming over from Saint Claras and in from tie surrounding country We elected Shirley Cedarleaf to be president and Gus Rhoads vice presiden With Mr MacNe1l as our advisor we had a bang up mid winter party in the gvm and a spring p1cn1c at Emery Park the presidency Kay Barnum became secretary and Niles Cox was trea urer Xxflfll this leaders the class of 44 roll d up its sleeves and went to work on three big prcjects I. The junior Play, briefed on another page of this volume was especially note- worthy for its lack of junior classmen but it just goes to show what a handful of good 1944 class members can do' The whole class got behind this and helped to make it a great success II Victory Week was a gala Schwab creation to promate the sale f S150 000 worth of War Bonds for the purchase of a C 46 by the school The seven day blowout was climaxed by the Victory Ball III The unzor Prom came in for some smooth handling by its director eannie Herold and its reigning king and queen Gay Mead and Shirley Malm After the ball was over the unior class cianged from evening dress to fatigue suits and moved in to clean up the gym In our last and senior year our advisors Harp and Hickey President C Schwab Vice Pres une Adams Treasurer G E Ruby Secretary Sally Vough and a depend able executive board all got on to a running start bv balancing the books and planning the mets Alice Wieder Miss McCann and Mrs Sam I aMant1a can bined their talents to give hungry East Aurorans the Senior Spaghetti Supper with meat balls Mountains of X' X ff XX f f f i n If 7 A I 3 1 A . , - . .
