Music Fes- CLASS HISTORY It was a b1g moment way back m 1930 when M1ss Mrldred Drehls and Mrs Florent1a Rob ert s krndergarten classes gathered together and had therr p1ctures taken The grrls all wore b1g harr bows wh1le the boys slrcked therr halr back Erghteen of that kmdergarten class have per severed through thxrteen years and scores of others have 1o1ned them to form the class of 43 We were really growrng up when we trooped 1nto frrst grade M1ss Rosen now elementary prlnclpal mstructed us 1n the fundamentals of readmg wr1t1ng and r1thmet1c In the second grade we spent most of our txme enlarg1ng our vocabulary and knowledge of other subjects under M1ss Beulah Phelps and M1ss Hattre Wallenwern The thrrd grade really was exc1t1ng as we had the fourth grade r1ght 1n Wllh us M1ss bunch Our frfth and s1xth grades found actlon for many of the students Now ed1tor of the Hrgh School Hrghlzghts Roger Sull1van got hrs start when he was elected ass1stant ed1tor of a news paper 1n M1ss Obenauer s frfth grade Lynette Rrttner Marg1e Pell and Sh1rley Vogt were 1n a jeep contest We were really commg up ln the world 1n seventh grade hav1ng lockers rn the hall and tryrng to frnd our rooms 1n the hrgh school part of the bu1ld1ng Lynette Rrttner was 1nterv1ewed as one of our talented students It came out that she dxdnt mmd gettrng up at seven o clock and certa1nly would mrss school 1f there wasnt any' A kn1tt1ng club was organ lzed w1th Katherrne Rutty as pres1dent Other members were Sh1rley Vogt Marg1e Pell Shrr ley Krll and Ruthana Hulbert At last the b1g event came We were fresh men' The offrcers were Doug Case pres1dent Sh1rley Vogt v1ce pres1dent lean Adams sec retary We sponsored o festxval 1n the brg gym fortune telhng and all Then we had fun Ildlng our brkes to a class p1cn1c at Emery Park The sophomore class found the offrcers all g1rls Ruthana Hulbert was pres1dent lean Adams vrce pres1dent Sue Gregory secretary and Betty Brown treasurer The Junror class electlons ramed Clyde Bart lett pres1dent Doug Case v1ce pres1dent DOIIS Kastner secretary B111 Fabran treasurer Our Iumor play went off w1th a bang It was What a Llfe wrth Henry Aldrrch played by Raymond Welty Marg1e Pell as secretary to the pr1nc1pal d1d her best to help hrm out of trouble The Iumor Senror Prom also added to the hap pen1ngs of our 1un1or year Preston Smlth and When Iune 1942 rolled around offrcers were chosen for our fmal year They were Doug Case pres1dent lean Adams vrce pres1dent Ianet Brrdgeman secretary and Davrd Gleed treasurer Mr Carlo N1s1ta and M1ss Dorothy Brown d1d a swell lob as class adv1sors In February of our senror year ballots came out for who we thought was the boy and g1rl most lrkely to succeed the most popular best speakers etc We also voted for var1ous other 1ssues namely the color of our caps and gowns offtcers of var1ous commrttees The yearly senlor magazrne sales a contest between the blue and red teams proved bene f1c1al rn ra1s1ng funds The basketball dances proved a great suc cess Wllh the help of the luke box wh1ch rn turn was sold to the junror class Arlene Ful lrngton had charge of the refreshments at the games CLASS O ETE UNDR RTY THR Margaret Hillman ata her beat with this wild lean Adams Were Crowned King and Queen- F N I N E N H E D F O - E E 37 fCo11tir1uedJ Betty Brown had charge of the three senior baked goods sales which were held in DuBois Hardware Store Another event that marked our senior year was our presentation of the Symphony Training Orchestra under conductorship of Ian Wolanek April 12 1943 This was of special interest be cause a few of the members were from East Aurora The last big event before graduation was the Iunior Senior Prom Preston Smith was the senior chairman As the theme a Hawaiian set ting was used complete with leis palm trees and all It provided a swell evening for all who Went The 43 Auroran is a unique yearbook in that it is the first edition to come out during the first full school year of war Of course complrca tions arose in getting the book out Essential materials were scarce for instance photo graphic supplies copper for plates material for the cover Pr1or1ty orders were necessary for many other things The war has caused many other interruptions in that eighteen year old boys occasionally were excused from their classes to go to the draft board and register To these alumni who are about to or who are serving their country we extend earnest wishes for the best of luck 1 Richard Bartlett 1934 2 Betty Kopp and Friend 1928 3 Leona George and brother 1929 4 Betty Kopp 1928 5 Miss Brown and Friend 1920 6 Miss Brcwn 1917 7 Mr Ntsita 1919 8 Delores Ernst 1933 9 Miss Brown 1937 10 Mr Nxstta 1917 11 Proyect in second grade 1933 12 Iackxe Cam 1931 13 Ruth Brost 1928 IV.
