Members of the East High Thunderbirds basketball team are Brian Miyamoto manager Edward Green Mike Portlock Louis Dionese Dan Kowal, Jim Lake, Jerry McLane, Bo McNab, Curt Brandon Ken Cusack Scott Harter Bob Conklin and Stacy Taniguchi manager Not pictured are Marcus Herrington, Roy Jackson, and Coach Chuck White Vorsiiy Basketball Building a strong team from only three returning lettermen, Coach Chuck White powered his East High T-Birds to their third consecutive Railbelt Championship, with a 10-2 victory in 1969. Victory followed victory throughout the season, but the greatest disappointment came in the form of a 66-55 defeat to Lathrop, thus terminating a 32 game winning streak, spanning more than three years, on our home floor. Exciting highlights of the season included a two point overtime victory against the Lathrop Malemutes, a 63-62 margin over the Palmer Moose, and a close match against cross town rival West on February 7. The Thunderbirds were triumphant in that contest only after three overtimes and four points on the foul line contributed by senior guard Ken Cusack. The final score resulted in a 74-70 victory for East. An unusual factor about this year's squad was the placement of two sophomores on the varsity team, Jim lBol McNab and Edward Green. The team worked long and hard to promote the T-Birds to their very respectable record of 15-3 for the 1968-69 season.
