4, Doug Parker and George Church drive hard to come out ahead , in a meet against the Dimond Lynx. Cross Country The T-Birds ranked third in a series of meets among the four cross country track teams in the state. To improve the team, Coach Ronald LaValley helped each member individually. T-Bird practice sessions, which began early in the school year, included an average of five to six miles of running per night. Time trials were held before each meet to determine the best runners for each competition. The season was climaxed at the state meet at AlVlU in which over 100 runners from eight teams participated. Bela Bodnar, East's top runner, placed third in the AIVIU contest and was later named lVlost Outstanding Team lVlember. Senior David Root was cited as the lVlost Improved Runner for East. I Coach Ronald LaVaIley gives his runners a short pep talk before a meet. , Members of the East cross country team are Coach LaValley, Tom Watson, Nlike King, Les Huttunen, Bela Bodnar, Dave Root, Doug Parker, George Church, and Craig lVlorrow.
