Fori Rich Homecoming The Fort Richardson Homecoming festivities began Friday night, September 20, with a bonfire and street dance at the Field House. Saturday afternoon the queen candidates were presented to the audience and escorted to their seats to watch the Huskies battle the Kenai Kardinals. The day's events were climaxed by the naming of Bonnie Alvarado as Huskie Homecoming Queen. Dave Rael and Eugene Golden, co-captains of the Huskie team, presented her with a bouquet of roses. Honor attendants were Marie Nichols, Sharon Skidmore, and Barbara Dickinson. Other candidates included Karen Cofer, Kit O'Leary, Jackie Hussey, Kris Webber, and Carol Jigliotti. Terminating the activities was a dance at the teen center honoring the queen and her court. Queen Bonnie Alvarado poses with the Huskie mascot after halftime ceremonies. Homecoming '68 Homecoming night, September 27, was the result of furious preparation and activity. The East Thunderbirds battled the Dimond Lynx for a capacity crowd at Mulcahy Stadium. At halftime, the flag corps and majorettes preceded the band onto the field for their routines. Following the band's performance, the princesses and their escorts were presented to the audience. Queen Debbie Craig received a trophy and roses and was escorted by Bob Conklin through the traditional DeMolay Arch of Swords. As a finale the Queen was carried around the field by Key Club members while the band played. The Thunderbirds charged into the game to beat the Lynx for a 30-7 victory. At the closing gun, Eastsiders, thronging onto the field, chanted Championship, championship, here we come! In the same mood participants returned to the school for a dance featuring the Manhattan Project band. 5. vt i as' Smiling exuberantly over her bouquet of roses and trophy, donated by Bovey Trophies, Queen Debbie Craig is cheered by the crowd. East High Students demonstrate that the beat really does go on at one of the many basketball dances held in the cafeteria. Sports Donces Building spirit and adding color to the social life of its students are the intent of the East High sports dances. Dances, held traditionally after football and basketball games, have long been an important facet in the extracurricular activities of high school pupils. All sports dances were held in the cafeteria at East and were sponsored by the student council. Decorations were supplied by the dance committee whose chairman was Patty Iverson. Included in the committee were Vicki Catching, in charge of decorations, and Margo Bell, in charge of entertainment. All dances were cleared through lVlr. Bernie Warren, assistant principal in charge of activities. Mr. Frick and lVlr. Levis were on hand to collect tickets. Furnishing the refreshments were clubs assigned to the games. First this year was the Homecoming Dance at which Queen Debbie Craig and her court were honored. Following the Homecoming Dance were the Christmas Dance and several basketball dances. l PWM Caught in a moment of reverie, Cheryl Jefferson may be remembering past dances and many good times she has had at East.
