The Oilers finished the season with a record of 4-4-l. At the All-District banquet six of our boys were chosen for the All-District team. Paul Fritts was selected as offensive tackle, Wood River's only man on the offensive eleven, The Oilers provided almost half the defensive team, though, as these five were elected: Dave Ripsom, endg Jerry Dwiggins, guard: Ron Tillery, linebacker, Carl Sutton, halfbackg and Jack Perrin, halfback. Wood River also won the player of the year award for the fourth time in the last five years, as Ron Tillery was selected Back of the Year. John Messick was high point scorer for Wood River averaging over 16.5 points per game. In the Holiday lnvitational Tournament at Kankakee, the Wood River Oilers took second place.
