AS LLEGHE Y VARSITY HGGPER Row I: Jack Schwer, Anton Goff, Ed Mitchell, Shawn Bomar, Mike Torma, Row 21 Coach Silanoff, Forrest Mashaw, Steve Carr, Russ Strochein. Jason Plummer, Nick Sfanos. Joe Jenkins, Manager Cliff Stumme The l985-86 Varsity Boys Basketball team had an excellent season! Head Coach Silianoff and assistant Mr. Rubino directed the team all the way to the WPIAL playoffs. This year's team won the Serra Christmas Tournament for the first time. They finished in 2nd place in Section 9, which is the highest since I967. The Varsity team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. They defeated Burrell in the first round before a loss to Blackhawk, the eventual champion in the quarter finals. This was also the first year that EA has participated in the PIAA state tournament. They traveled to Sharon, PA to play Hickory. The teams overall standard was section Il-5 and overall I6-8. Forrest Mashaw had a Round Ball Classic tryout. and was selected to the All-Section lst team. The future plans are to maintain the standard of play that this team has established and try to develop some tradition and pride in East Allegheny Basketball. The captains Genita Watkins and April Brown encour- aged and led their team to perform at their best ability. The hard work and determination improved many players such as April Brown, Regina Curran, Renee Curran, and Sondi Brown. Most Valuable player was Dorethia Jackson. The team dis- played excellent team work and talent. A job well done and a lot to be proud of. The highlight of the season was finishing third in Sec- tion 9AAA.
