Joe Jenkins, Manager Cliff Stumme The l985-86 Varsity Boys Basketball team had an excellent season! Head Coach Silianoff and assistant Mr. Rubino directed the team all the way to the WPIAL playoffs. This year's team won the Serra Christmas Tournament for the first time. They finished in 2nd place in Section 9, which is the highest since I967. The Varsity team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. They defeated Burrell in the first round before a loss to Blackhawk, the eventual champion in the quarter finals. This was also the first year that EA has participated in the PIAA state tournament. They traveled to Sharon, PA to play Hickory. The teams overall standard was section Il-5 and overall I6-8. Forrest Mashaw had a Round Ball Classic tryout. and was selected to the All-Section lst team. The future plans are to maintain the standard of play that this team has established and try to develop some tradition and pride in East Allegheny Basketball. Churchill Turtle Creek Swissvale Wilkinsburg Jeannette Southmoreland Yough OPP. 38 72 35 36 55 56 44 42 55 36 52 55 38 33 56 73 4l 58 50 The Junior Varsity team had a very successful season this year, their record was 8-ll, they showed lots of enthusiasm throughout the season, they all play well together, and they all learned how to accept their wins as well as their losses. Leading the J.V. team is captain Jason Plummer and Jackie Schwer, the team had tremendous talent and determination. The boys averaged I4 points a game and Nick Sfanos led the team in scoring. Joe Jenkins, a freshman, was chosen Most Valuable player. The team displays young, ambitous talent that is sure to grow more and more developed into an excellent Varsity team. 93
