Text from Pages 1 - 136 of the 1981 volume: “
This year, OUR YEAR, 1981, music has filled and reverberated throughout activities, organizations, friendships, and our day to day living. Yes, it is “MORE THAN A FEELING” this “DOUBLE VISION” we have of our school as we listen to “SILLY LOVE SONGS” “ON THE RADIO”, climbing our “STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN” we realize that “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE”, AND THE “MEMORIES” of E.H.S. might help to “BRING BACK THAT LOVIN' FEELING”. Traveling down the “LONG AND WINDING ROAD”, we might become a “GAMBLER” or a RENEGADE . Yet, no matter how long we try to “HOLD OUT” from the adult society, we’ll always remember “THE WAY WE WERE” way back at E.H.S., our “ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL”. 1 V 7 Halls Of Memory 1900-1981 DEDICATION TO MEMORIES In 1883, almost a century ago, That was when our school system started to grow. Thru the following historical pages. We hope to bring back memories of past ages. Our aim is to bring pleasures and smiles, To old friends, tho separated by events and smiles. From childhood memories of years gone past. Reminiscent of friendship that last and last. From the first graduates Kincead, Dodge, and Snow, To all teachers and graduates who have watched it grow. And to all who contributed both present and past, Your sacrifice and dedication wil last and last. So, treasure the walls and study rooms we have known. And remember the childhood pleasures we all own. So here is to days, for some long past. To school years that have slipped away all too fast. For from these pages of yesteryear, We hope they bring happiness to all so dear. With the blessings of the Almightyoabove, Future generations will find knowledge, kindness, happiness, and love. To deal with the situations of the world today. For without God, knowledge and wisdom it would wither away. Pictures and pages lost in the mail, film overexposed, deadlines lost to eternity, confusion, and lack of communication and cooper- ation were just a few setbacks. However, through the efforts and perserverance of a few, at long last their task was completed. The intrigue of “Flirting With Disaster” had passed. The Raidorian Staff: 1. Kent Meloy, Art Editor 2. The switch was made because of the absence of football and the fact that there was no ho- mesoccer games on a Friday or Saturday. The dance started at 8:00 on Friday, Octo- ber 13, and the music was provided by Quik Fix. This year’s Royalty were Steve Eller and Pam Jones. The dance topped off a week of fun-filled activities such as a slave auction, 50’s day, hat day and many more. The Art Fair 43 We’re Off To See The Wizard . . “THE WIZARD OF OZ” This year the all school musical was brought back for all students young and old to participate. We have gathered together at the 100,000 seat facility. The Steven’s Dome, at Dodge Park for its dedication. As the ceremony begins, The Rev. Dalane Dettore delivers the invocation. The Rev. Dettore took time away from his world touring basketball team. The Holy Shooters, to attend. Also, accompanying Dalane, is head cheerleader of the Holy Shooters, Sister Tammy Towns. We inquired about their friend Shannon Bishop, and found that she has had her ups and downs in the past years as chief escalator engineer at McCormick Place. After the invocation, the Master of Ceremony, Mark Anderson, steps towards the podium. Mark has become a very successful Disc Jockey for the local radio station W.E.H.S., broadcasting live from atop the Weidner Building. This building was formerly the Campbell Co-op, owned by Scot Campbell. With the money Scot acquired from the transaction, Scot and Mary (Gast) moved to Las Vegas where Scot is an owner of the thriving Copenhagen Casino. The Weidner Corporation, the world’s largest gum distributor, transformed the Co-op into a towering city mall. Within this mall there are a few shops owned by class of ’81 alumni. For example, upon entering the 62nd floor, the aroma of permanents and hamburgers overwhelms one as the elevator doors open, and one is confronted with the flashing neon sign promoting The Vidal Campbell Salon. Vidal, formerly known as Tim Campbell, is world renowned as one of the finest hairstylists. Vidal along with his two assistants, Sandy Cox-Passow and Lori Kelly-Chapman, are both hair-washing and French braiding specialists in their fields, though Lori has been seen moonlighting at McDonalds down the hall. There is one other restaurant located within the mall. The Redwood Manor owned and operated by Bill Norton and Tiffany Landers. Deb Zimmerman-Campbell, wife of Vidal, furthers their income by being head waitress at the Manor; her Pink Dip training has really been beneficial. Tiffany and Bill still like to keep in training with the dishwashing job by every now and then helping out with the suds. As Mark introduces the entertainment for the evening we all realize the lead singer of the band is Steve Eller, whose new hit song is a remake of “Help Me Rhonda’’. One of the members of Steve’s band is Kent Meloy who occassionally steps-up to the microphone and sings his version of “In The Mood”. While the evening affair progresses everyone enjoys a wonderful dinner with a dessert of Dilly Bars served by Robin Robinson-Dilly. Since she bought the local Dairy Queen, she has found everything Scrumpdllltious. To amuse ourselves during the meal, we reminisce and discover what we have done with our lives in the past loe twenty-five years. To our amazement, Sandy Whitecotten said that she had recently been voted Mother of the Year. Then everyone noticed John Einhaus had not yet arrived at the ceremony. When calling in concern of his absence, his wife replied that he had car trouble and would arrive after he obtained a new rear-end. After Tiffany and Bill cleared away the dishes, drinks were served by none other than Jon Grey; everyone was soon filled to the brim with Gusto. Amazingly, someone noticed that Gary Stanford was not there. When inquiring about his occupation, Kent remarked that Gary was touring with the Ramone’s as publicity manager. Before we could inquire about anymore 81 alumni, Mark had begun the dedication. All were surprised to hear that the old gym was torn down and that the new facility would house all sporting events in the area. It was certainly a coicidence that the company of Bidstrup and Brewer Inc. were granted the task of destroying the building. No machinery was necessary as Tim used himself and Curt to get the job done or down as one might say. Mark went on to say that some of our classmates assisted in the legal as well as financial technicalities of the project. Nan Ostrem-Buchanan and Jamelle Gauer-Kozlowski were two of the accountants, who kept the money matters organized. Jane Norton, who also participated in the 1984 Summer Olympics as a top Volleyball spiker, finally became a lawyer and handled all legal matters. Additionally, special recognition went to Kelly Gray- Whittaker who created the sculpture made of old car parts, donated by Whittaker Salvage Co. Head of Maintenance for the dome is Barry Boyle, who acquired this special skill from many hours of hard labor at E.H.S. The two attending physicians at the dome are Sharon Keim-Goellner and Malinda Slaughterback-Zimmerman. who specializes in diseases of skin discoloring in the neck area. In finalizing the dedication, Mark announced some of the large contributors to the financial support of the dome as being: The Johnson McDuffee Horse Breeders Association, The Pam-Shake Your Booties- Jones School of Dance, The Earlville High School Library- Head Librarian Joe Stillwell, Steve VeZain-McDonald, owner of a large chain of fast food restaurants, Valerie Pettenger authoress of the famous book, MEMOIRS OF SENIOR ENGLISH, The T.Fultz and S.Cronin Teletype Company, and Kathy Thorson, whose mind is still in space by being head astronomer at the Adler Planitarium. Immediately following this statement, Mr. Stevens is wheeled in by his son Adam and announces that we all have to leave soon because Sharia Trump’s Roller Derby Queens are going to put on a benefit performance. So as the evening came to a close, we searched for a proper adage to toast the new facility. Sharon Kelm rose to the occassion with a clenched fist in the air and screamed “Rock and Roll”. The 1981 Raidorian Staff would like to acknowledge their sincere gratitude to the 1980-1981 School Board. Their understanding and patience were appreciated. From left to right: Seated-Wilma Boltz. Our year 1981, has come to a musical conclusion. Yes, our days of “FOREVER IN BLUE JEANS” have trav- eled to the “MAIN EVENT” the time of “CELEBRATION” - the end of one year and the beginning of the next. In years to come we can look back on the “MEMORIES” of E.H.S and possibly “BRING BACK THAT LOVIN’ FEELING.” However, no matter what the future will hold for each of us, we will always remember our days at E.H.S. our “ROCK AND ROLL HIGH SCHOOL”. The Raidorian Staff would like to voice our appreciation to the following for their altruistic aid in the completion of our musical tribute to Rock And Roll E.H.S.
