Raidorian 1979 Volume XXXI Earlville High School Earlville, Illinois 2 3 We dedicate this edition of the Raidorian Yearbook co the faculty at Earlville Schools. In the very beginning, when we started school, they were there to teach us the basics. They helped to build our intellects and to reinforce our mental capaci- ties . As the years passed, we learned more and more about different aspects of life. Somewhere along the way, we started taking the teachers for granted, and along with being taken for granted, they were also forgotten. When they are remem- bered, it is usually not because of their good qualities, but because we feel that they were too rough on us with an overabundance of homework or that they just didn't agree with our w'ay of thinking. Some of them were more than the stereotype classroom teachers. Those few helped with a deeper understanding of the complex problems involved with each individual. Because they possessed that discerning faculty, they were truly able to help troubled or lost students. Now is the time to realize that teachers are not our belligerent enemies. They however, professionals working with us towards a common goal, the attain- of more enriched minds. ah S' - 4 Science 6 History i 1. Such eagerness to dig right into World History; 2. Lack of participation, depth, and a tough schedule were all contributing factors in the campaign. Individual performance took precedence over team performance in 1978. Kerry Hardin's 41 pass recep- tions record was one of the best marks in the state. Defensively the Red Raiders were led by Lambert Leonard with 161 tackles. Don Novak led the scoring with nine touchdowns. 29 Number One Football Fans Football Cheerleaders, clockwise starting in front: Laura Cronin; Debbie Zimmerman; Dawn Hill; Sandy Imel; Johnna Stegman; Sandy Cox; Kathy Thorsen; Dena Zimmerman; Linda Powell. Boyle, M. Anderson, B. Johnson, D. Dettore, D. Skinner, Coach Richard Koehler. The 1978-79 Fr. -Soph. Basketball team worked mainly on fundamentals and building confidence in the players. After a rough start and tough schedule, the team smoothed out most of its problems and ended the season strong. The team was lead all year by Mark Anderson and Tim Campbell. r' A Winning Varsity Season FRONT ROW: D. LeRette; B. Wald; S. Whitecotton; K. Hardinj L. Childs; J. Anderson; R. Torman, Manager. The Red Raiders' 1978-1979 basketball team finished the season differently from past Earlville teams. A 15-10 record was the first winning season notched by a varsity basketball squad in ten years. A 6-3 record in the Little 1'8 Conference was good for a fourth place finish. Competition in the LEC Holiday Tournament also found the Raiders capturing a fourth place finish. 33 J. The Varsity Volleyball team at E.H.S. this year was the most exciting and competitive ever. The highlights of the season were playing very well against 1 Huntley in the Conference Tournament and defeating Serena in the District Tournament. Some of the best skilled players will return next year, and Earlville may be one of the top teams in the conference. J5 FIRST ROW: R. Schmitz; T. Landers; T. Hanson; S. Cox; J. Stegman; M. Gast; N. Winter Shortens Bowling Season As usual the severe winter cut short the bowling schedule, with only seven matches, including the Walnut-Tampico Invitational, the Conference Tournament and the District Tournament. The Raiders had a young bowling team with only one senior on the starting team, and are looking to the future. Very skilled individ- uals make up the teams; and hopefully if they get it all together at the same time, they will become a competitive team. 38 1978-79 Sports Statistics VOLLEYBALL VARSITY: 1978 Most Valuable Player Carol Schrecengost 1978 Most Improved Player Karen Wilson 1978 Hustle Award Sandy Imel 1978 Co-Captains Denise Ridge Carol Schrecengost Varsity Record: 8-10 1978 Coach's Award Julie Hamel JUNIOR VARS ITY: Most Valuable J.V.
