EARLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL EARLVILLE, ILLINOIS VOLUME XXVIII Order of Events ADMINISTRATION 25 ACADEMICS 33 ATHLETICS 51 ORGANIZATIONS 65 CLASSES .........81 SENIORS 97 The Junior Class had the world on a string as they feverishly worked on their Prom, It's A Small World. All of their hard work paid off as the gym was transformed into a lovely dance floor with scenes from around the world. The banquet, held in the cafeter- ia, featured foreign foods and servers in costumes. After-dinner speeches were given by Scott Imel and Bill Mitchell who read the Senior Class Will and Prophecy. The music of Homegrown Boogie was enjoyed by all. The special lighting effects, provided by the band, also added a touch of fan- tasy to the dance floor. The candidates for Prom Sweet- hearts, Rita Holczer and Bill Pa- kenham, Tami Kaleel and Doug Hamer, Deb Stockley and Ken Cast, Cindy Burd and Jim Grey, Anita Krienert and Dennis Nielsen, passed through two worlds as they approached the throne. The crowning of Anita and Dennis as Prom Sweethearts was the high- light of the enchanted evening. As the evening came to a close, the seniors looked forward to the future when they would meet their classmates and prove it's a small world after all. This year's homecoming was truly the best from start to finish. Inter-class competition was used to promote spirit and enthusiasm for the big game. By Tuesdays pep session the spirit was almost at its limit as each class cheered the team on. Wednesday, Jack and Jill, Raggedy Ann and Andy, and a bunch of lovely ladies were a few unfamiliar faces in the halls 14 HOMECOMING Great Moments in the American Revolution was the theme of the parade. The sophomore class took first place in the float competition, with juniors taking sec- ond and 8th grade taking third place. At the bonfire our spirits were boosted even higher as we heard a few inspiring words from Coach Lowe, and participated in the tug-o-war and the customary burning of one of the opponent's team members. The boys gave a team cheer to end the evening. The game was a close one with Huntley winning 6-0. Highlighting the festivities was the crowning of Scott Kaminky and Marilee Regnier as Home- coming King and Queen. Bryan John son--Donna Thorson Doug Duffey—Cindy Whittaker Queen Marilee Regnier King Scott Kaminky Julie Landers--Jeff Hartman Cindy Hindle—Jon Tuftee Pam Torman—Jerry Imel SENIOR PLAY “Here comes Patricia” This year's senior play featured a largely inexperi- enced cast and a new director, Miss Calhoun. De- spite being green, all of the cast and crew worked together and had a lot of fun. Make-up, costumes, pictures, and frazzled nerves were all a part of dress rehearsal. Performance nights will be remembered for a few flubbed lines, some soapy candy, a couple of wrong entrances, but all in all, two thor- oughly enjoyable evenings. MRS. CARROL . . . ELSIE CROWDER . . They worked until mid- night on Thursday and all day Friday in order to finish and be rested by the banquet and dance. The Com- munity Building was transformed into a red, white, and blue fantasy de- picting some of the important eras in the development of our country. One could see the crossing of the Delaware, a wild west saloon, scenes from the Roarin' 20's and Fabu- lous 50's, and the landing of Apollo 11 on the moon. 22 The banquet, held in the cafeteria, began at 6:30 with dinner prepared by the Junior Class and served by costumed sophomores. Before dinner, Senior Class president, Jeff Hartman, read the Class Prophecy and follow- ing dinner, Carol Halsey read the Class Will. The dance began at 8:00 and every- one enjoyed dancing to the music of Homegrown Boogie for the second year in a row. At 11:00 the crowning of Jeff Hartman and Janet Sharp as Prom Sweethearts, highlighted the evening. The Prom came to an end at midnight and those who attended may now say that they remember well The Last 200 Years. 23 ADMINISTRATION With liberty and justice for all. MR. In Algebra 1, Mr. Rogers builds on the foundation presented in Jr. High math — to track the properties of the real number system and its applications. Mrs. Dale teaches Consumer Math to those students who have chosen not to take Algebra. The basic computational skills are reviewed and the student is exposed to the practical, everyday uses of math. Geometry is a system of precise, logical thought about space . Mrs. Schrecengost teaches the fundamentals of simple logic before introducing the nation of proof , which is taditionally the core of Geometry. Algebra 2, also taught by Mrs. Schrecengost, reviews and extends the material covered in Algebra 1. New topics are also introduced. Mr. Timmerman teaches the Math 4 class — Advanced Algebra, Logarithms, and a little Trigonometry. HISTORY The future reflects the past. History took on special significance during our Bicentennial year. The Constitution exams made us aware of our rights and responsibilities. The trip taken by the Sociology class to Dixon State School provided a glimpse of another way of life. Mr. Curran teach- es both History and Sociology. The Political Science classes, taught by Mr. Hothan, study different forms of government — their advantages and dis- advantages. The history of many different cultures of our society are studied in Mrs. Inman's World History class. ENGLISH — SPEECH The study of grammar and literature. Proper command of the English lan- guage and appreciation for all forms of literary works are taught by Mrs. Inman, Mrs. Bender, and Miss Cal- houn. This year we read and re- viewed novels and studied several Shakespearian plays. The Speech classes learned how to read childrens' literature, studied the principles of debate, and gave various forms of speeches. SCIENCE Preparing for tomorrow This year our Science department offered Biology, Chemistry, Astron- omy, and Applied Science. The classes were exposed to the wonders of nature, the composition of the elements, and the marvels of the heavens. Mr. Spies and Mr. Timmerman are the instructors. The year was highlighted by the active participation in an annual Sci- ence Fair held April 26, 1976. There were many interesting projects covering all aspects of science. TYu Ettecutl VOCATIONAL CENTER Career training for E.H.S. This year the Indian Valley Vocational Center at Sandwich, opened its doors to twelve area school districts. Thirteen students from E.H.S. commuted every afternoon to take various career training courses. They studied child care, aircraft maintenance, and automotive mechanics. The center gives students the opportunity to take classes which smaller school districts are unable to offer. This is a great advantage for stu- dents who plan to enter the business world rather than attend college. ART SHOP Artsy — Craftsy On May 7 G 8, the Fine Art and In- dustrial Art departments held their Second Annual Art Fair. Many hours were spent in the class rooms through- out the year creating the items for display. The different art categories included pottery, painting, printing, and macrame. An air hockey table, cradles, a grandfather clock, and various smaller projects were built in shop. Some of the shop projects were displayed at NIU, and received excellent ratings. — HEALTH EDUCATION All about life « Mr. Rahn instructs the Health Education course requir- ed for graduation. This is a semester course for Juniors. Classroom activities include active discussions of to- day's top issues, heated question and answer sessions, and public interviews. Prime topics of study are alchol- olism, drugs and sex. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Going co-ed Mrs. Mickelson and Mr. Norman are the P. E. in- structors for Jr. high and high school. Fundamental skills and rules for seasonal sports are included in the P. E. program along with various co-ed activities. All classes participate in soccer, flag football, speedball, volleyball, and floor hockey. H. S. offers a good basic background for the student planning to enter the business world. Typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and office practice are taught by Mrs. Large. Supplementary courses are offered at the Vocational Training Center. 49 GIRLS' SOCCER TEAM. FRONT ROW: W. Burd, C. Hindle, L. Boltz, S. Todd, L. Ridge, E. Eddings, N. Whitlock, D. Eddings, P. After two long, hot weeks of conditioning we were ready to get into game situations. Then came drills, drills, and more drills! As the season got under way all of our practicing really prov- ed worthwhile. The team moved from last place into fourth place, a won-lost record much im- proved from last year. All sophomore, junior, and senior mem- bers participated in the Little Ten Cho- ral Festival held in Somonauk in Octo- ber. Both Mixed and Girls Chorus per- formed at the Christmas Concert in December. Several soloists and the Madrigals competed in Normal, 111. at the IHSA State Music Festival in April. The spring concert in May had a new feature, guest artist James Parks of Blackhawk College was the baritone soloist. He sang one number with the Mixed Chorus and then performed sev- eral solo selections from Broadway shows, Carousel and My Fair Lady. The Madrigals ended the year by singing at graduation. 70 MIXED CHORUS. FRONT ROW: D. Pakula, E. Turpin, K. Janes, T. Newcomb, L. Conklin, S. Todd, V. Sprowls, J. Rhodes, K. Hardin, R. Earle, D. After a tiring trip on Amtrak they arrived at the luxurious Quebec Hilton. For four days the group enjoyed the sights. They took a walking tour of the old French fortified city. The artists' sidewalk displays, the Chateau Frontenac, the Plains of Abraham, and Mont Morency will be cherished memories for all. SEVENTH GRADE The Newcomers SEVENTH GRADE. T. Allen, M.
