A few senior girls display their poetry notebooks, complete with elaborate covers depicting nature. A major English project of the junior class is making an illustrated notebook of Canterbury Tales. Through Speech and Writing Showing his Elizabethan theatre to Susie Jones, Ralph Sellers demonstrates its minute moving parts. Each student of E.H.S. is required to take four years of English. Mrs. Duckels teaches two sections each of freshman and sophomore courses which are a combination of rhetoric and literature in the junior year and American literature in the senior year. The only foreign language offered is Spanish, under the instruction of Mrs. Duckels. Grammar is stressed in the first year of study, and literature is considered in the second year. Interest in this department has grown to the extent that there are two sections of Spanish I this year. Mrs. Margaret Johnson English 21
