The Pink Pelican 892 N. Jackson Avenue Atlanta 6, Georgia May 20, 1972 Dear Ginny, I knew that you would want to hear all about the reunion of the class of 1957, so here I am writing the follow- ing day. The class met in the old Community Room, now a well-appointed lounge. I was happy to observe that the same old spirit prevailed and that everyone has been highly successful. In Earlville's immediate vicinity. Bill Torman is an exceedingly wealthy farm owner. Harold Seaton is the manager of the thriving Sinclair Oil refineries in Earlville. Bob Ward is the president of the Mendota Chapter of the A. A. He also raises several little Kats at home. JoAnne Gedwell and Sara Wold both went into the music field. Sara is the first flutist in the Chicago Sym- phony Orchestra and JoAnne is an internationally known organist. She occasionally plays at some of the larger roller rinks for $500 a night! Kay Turnipseed is a twenty year man in the Marines. He joined right after graduation and still retains the rank of P. F.C. The concern of our high school teachers for our welfare apparently did some good. Barbara Fultz is teaching English and physical education in Pockey Creek, Mississippi. Richard Riva is a Professor of History at the Univer- sity of Illinois. Mary Piller is a Red Cross instructor on television, in Chicago. Margie Cantlin is a lecturer on the techniques of bookkeeping. This job takes her all over the United States, but her home is in Montana. Tom Joslin is the head soil-tester in the Department of Agriculture. His office is in Washington D.C. Our class has contributed to the world of science in John Winter and Kathy Madden. John is a (mad!) scientist who has been working on a desert island in the Pacific. Kathy could now sit back and enjoy her millions, for she recently conquered cancer, but instead, she is continuing her work in her laboratory in Trenton, New Jersey. Bernice Sprowls gets around just about as much as any of us, for she is a lady bus driver for Greyhound. Marilyn Gibson is a busy little housewife in Sacramento, California, and is an active member of the Bird Watchers Association. Mary Agnes Russell is married, and is raising a very large family in Nebraska. Darlene Seward also is married, and trains seeing-eye-dogs. Rollie Sibigtroth is an elephant hunter in the Belgian Congo. We were surprised that he was able to make it to the reunion. The athletes are doing well too. Dean Van Horn is at his prime as a major league baseball player for the Cubs with a batting average of 400. Gib Meloy is a jockey, of Kentucky Derby fame. Wanda Mooney is a pro- fessional knife thrower, and has been featured in many circuses. Did they teach THAT in gym class? Sun Humm is a famous American sports car driver and resides in Indianapolis, near the track. Barbara Kreiter spends her summers in the Colorado Rockies, leading climbing expeditions up Pike's Peak. Celia Shurlow is the United Sutes Ambassador to Switzerland where she has become a well-known ski champion. Janice Houghlin is a life guard at the Olympic swimming meets. Actually, she does this just for kicks, because her millionaire husband has business to attend over there. Marguerite Koetz is very happy with her job as a recreation leader on the luxury liner, the United States. In the manufacturing business are John Kofoed, Chuck Whittaker, and Phyllis Cantlin. John has been manu- facturing fur-lined bath tubs for the Eskimos. His most unusual factory is in Minnesou. Chuck is the President of the Buick division of General Motors. Phyllis runs a fruit-cake factory in Florida. Forrest Glover, still known as Timber, is a lumber-jack in Canada. Bob Jornlin, a famous hair stylist, has changed his name to Pierre Touffle. Karon Weidner models space suits, and plans soon to take a trip to the moon. Mr. Johnston is to pilot that excursion. Bernice Ketcham is a private secretary at Radio City, married to her wealthy and handsome boss! Bob Larsen is a pastor of a small church in Maine. Linda Cole operates a home for bachelors in Beverly Hills, California. Everyone asked about you, Ginny, and also made inquiries concerning Bob. We are all very proud that the Art Director of Walt Disney Productions is from the class of '57. I suppose Bob is pretty busy with his activities around Las Vegas. I read in the paper that his latest date has been Veronaca Dream, Hollywood Starlet. Doesn't this former classmate of ours get around? I open at the Pink Pelican tomorrow night and am told that some of the P.T.A. members are planning to break away from their convention to visit the Club. Our classmates said that they can hardly believe that I'm a singer since I certainly couldn’t sing when in high school. At the reunion we all discovered that life is full of many surprises! If not before, we hope to see you in '87, the year of our next reunion. The bus said To Washington And we all jumped in; And when we came back The sweepstakes we did win. And at Fairfax we wowed 'em, Till they stood up in the aisles. And I bet you could have heard them For miles and miles! Greetings, Mr. Nichols! From All of us here, From the depths of our hearts, We hold YOU most dear! And at District Contest, Inspired by our trip, Our band and choruses showed them That we really had zip. I couldn't write a poem To a NICER guy. To one who demands respect with a Twinkle in his eye! And when we won the sweepstakes. All we could say, was, Three cheers for Mr. Nichols, Hurrah! Hurrah! Then on to Macomb, For the state you know; Where boys and girls alike Their colors did show. Now, Mr. Nichols, you're tops In the chorus and the band, So, let us all stand up And give our director a hand! --JoAnne Gedwell EARLVILLE COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL L. T.
