SENIOR CLASS WILL We, the Senior class of 1953, of Earlville High School, town of Earlville, county of La Salle, and the state of Illinois, being of sound and disposing mind and mem- ory, do make, execute, publish and declare this our last will and testament, hereby revoking and annuling all former wills made by us. I. Betty Barber, leave to the Junior girls my shorthand ability. Maybe you can do 120 words a minute by the end of the year. Mary Bidstrup wills her cheerfulness to Howard Hoff- man. Hope you'll be just as gay as Mary. To Helen Klatt, Carole Boozel wills her great glass breaking sneeze. Hope you leave some windows in the school, Helen. Barbara Campbell leaves her Saturday night dances to Sid Goodchild. Hope you enjoy them as much as Barb has. I, Dave Frey, will my tape I used in football to Sug Smith. Hope you don't use it as much as he did. To the future annual staff, Wilma Gatiss wills her artistic ability. Hope you have a good yearbook. I, Wanda Hamel, leave to Connie Prater my long finger- nails. Take care and don't cut your throat or anyone else's with them. Robert Harmon leaves to Howard Nielson his Toni. Hey! This guy doesn't need it. Phebe Harris wills her natural curly hair to Marilyn Harmon. I, Robert Kirby, leave to Gerald Wright my manly physique. Now the girls will always be after you, Gopher. Janice Johnson wills her happy state, as of now, to all the old maids in High School. May she always be happy. Richard Larson wills his straight A's to Scott Atherton. Hope you like school as well as he does. Janice Larson leaves her ability to out talk any person in school to Edith Snelling. Please don't hold your breath too long, Edith. I, Don Landers, leave to Gerry Tuftie my cheerful smile I have every Monday morning. May it make you look better than it did me. Marguerite Malkey wills to Ann Larabee, her thunder bolt laugh. Almost as bad as Carol's sneeze. I, Julie Norton, leave my record for tardiness to my brother, Jim. Hope you don't break this more than I did, Jim. Betty Oulman leaves her quick laugh jokes to Joanne Jacobs. Maybe Joe can stop giggling long enough to tell one. Who knows. To Bill Coffee, Jim Pritchert leaves his powerful shoulders. Now, we can win more football games than ever. Lois Shurlow wills her natural red hair to Donna Burd. It will save you money, Donna. To Ross Cullins, Dave Stockley leaves his dancing ability. I, Mary Stockley, leave to Ronald Claude my height. Maybe you will make a center in basketball someday. Dan Smith leaves to Bud Swayze his pitching arm. Now Bud can throw the football and then run to catch it. To Sally Innis, Marilyn Terry leaves her set of drums. Hope you don't find them too heavy, Sally. Don Wiley wills all his admirers to his brother, Curt. I hope he can use all of them. I, Walt Woods, bequeath my ability to sleep peace- fully in English to Thomas M. Burke, Esquire. Don't have too many colorful dreams, Tom. Edward Wright leaves to Ken Cronin all his car draw- ings. I don't think Ken will be needing them though. Now to be serious for a moment, we the senior class of 1953 will our beloved Advisor, Miss Bullock to the future senior class. Please be good to her, kids, and treasure her always. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Lake Land, Florida April 28, 1967 Dear Miss Bullock: Now that everyone has gone, I will take a little time and write to you. You see, today was the grand open- ing of my little hotel here in Lake Land. I named it Gattiss's Paradise. It has 400 rooms and is located in the middle of ten acres on the east side of Parker Lake. The grounds are really beautiful the year around with lots of palm trees and flowers. I was sorry to hear that you could not come. Most of my classmates were here. The main ballroom was decorated with red and white, our school colors. Since you were not able to be here, I will try to tell you how the class of '53 is coming along. Phebe Harris is a bathing suit designer in Tampa, Florida. Marilyn Terry, who was Miss Illinois in 1956, is her top model. Richard Larson is president of a company that is experimenting with jet cars. He wouldn't tell me much except that someday soon people would be able to drive 200 MPH on the highway. Mary Bidstrup owns a dance hall in the Bronx, New York. “Bud and His Boys is the Thursday night special. She told me that Barbara Campbell is a dancing instruc- tor and is trying to teach Robert Kirby how to do the Charleston. He is a mechanic for Eastern Airlines. Dave Frey is in the Insurance business now. I told him to go and see Richard Larson because Richard would need insurance if he ever expected to go 200 MPH. Lois Shurlow is a nurse at Hines Hospital in Chicago. She told me that several of the patients liked her so well that they wanted her to take care of them for the rest of their lives. David Stockley has a hog farm in Iowa and is still raising Durocs. It is hard to believe, but he has finally grown up. He is now tall, dark, and handsome. Marguerite Malkey has a ranch out in Colorado. She raises genuine thoroughbred plow horses. Don Wiley is foreman of the ranch and raises turkeys on the side. Walt Woods is a lawyer in Missouri. He is working hard to be Governor of the state. Who knows, the way he can play the piano he might be president some day? Janice Johnson married Stanley Sampson and has three boys and one girl. They own a motel and gas station in New Mexico. The Sampson Family is very efficient. You drive your car up to the station and in one minute the oil is checked, gas tank filled, and tires checked. Betty Oulman asked me to stop in at the Stork Club if I ever come to New York. She is going to sing three nights a week during the summer. She also runs a small gift shop on Fifth Avenue. Jim Pritchert has just completed a statue which rivals Venus de Milo. Do you remember how he used to sit in English class and mold parrots and monkeys out of Double Bubble Gum? Betty Barber is head cashier at the First National Bank of Rockford, Illinois. She gets to handle a lot of money every day there. Carole Boozel learned quite a bit about chemistry in high school and is now working on a new kind of spot remover. Not only the spot disappears but what- ever it was on disappears also. Bob Harmon, the up and coming boy of '53, is now vice president of the Standard Oil Company. He is happily married and has three children. Janice Larson is queen of the airways. She is a stewardess for Trans World Airlines. That girl really gets around. David Smith told me that he had just bought out the city meat market in Aurora, Illinois. He is engaged in the manufacture of powder puffs as a side line be- cause you know how he was a ladies' man at E. C. H. S. Wanda Hamel is teaching English at the University of Southern California. Thanks to the orange tree in her back yard, she has fresh fruit every morning. Don Landers is down in the jungles of Africa look- ing for rare animals. He is also a missionary and knows many tribes there. Julie Norton teaches kindergarten in Detroit, Michi- gan. She also has five boys. Her husband doesn't get much work done on his new house when the boys are around. There were three of my classmates who weren't able to come to the opening, but they each wrote me a letter telling about themselves. Eddie Wright is up in Greenland trying to sell re- frigerators to the Eskimos. It seems that business is so bad that he couldn't earn enough money to get home. Mary Stockley is teaching grade school in the Hawaiian Islands. She said that she was coming to the states as soon as school was out and would see me then. .Robbie Donahue has a big ranch in Texas. He was out digging a post hole for a new fence he was putting in when he struck oil. He is so busy counting his money that he hardly gets off the ranch any more. Well, I guess that just about concludes what I have to tell you about the class. I am hoping you will be able to spend a few weeks with me next winter. Just let me know when you are coming down and I will reserve the best rooms I have. I know you would enjoy your stay. Yours truly, Wilma Gatiss
