MEMORIES PROGRAM at Laying of Corner Stone Address Rev. John Gordon, Rockford, Ill. The corner stone of Earlville's new community high school building was laid Friday afternoon, May 28th, with appropriate ceremonies. The weather was pleasant and a goodly company, in addition to the school pupils, witnessed the event. The ceremony began at 3 o'clock when Rev. Henry Abraham gave the i11- vocation, after which Superintendent Taylor announced that a number of ar- ticles would be placed in the copper box that was to be sealed in the stone. gli? box was 4x6x10 inches in size and the memorials placed in it were as o ows: History of Earivine communitylnigh School--Margaret Bullock. The box was then placed in the stone and President Rayson of the board of education spread the first trowel of mortar in which the stone was set. The contractor, K. J. Mulder of Nokomis, then superintended the lowering of the stone into place where it will probably rest for generations. The members of the board and the speaker, Rev. John Gordon, then re- paired to the platform that had been erected. John A. Dupee, Jr., sang a solo and Dr. Gordon was introduced and spoke for about half an hour. His talk, of course, was directed mostly to the young people present, for whom the building was erected. Miss Esther Davis led in singing two verses of America, and the ben- cfliction was pronounced by Rev. Chas. Lyons. 17 ...
