M w Bundy Hall nas turned into a Silver Dollar Saloon for its Opt-n House, As people returned after the long Cliristinas vacation. they noticed that the opinion hoard had het-n moved. This promptly brought a howl from students. The far-ulty is trampling on our rightsfi The administration is giving more consideration to the development office and the fund- raising aspects of Eftlilllillll than it is to studentsfl k'The opinion hoard is not where it can he used as easily. Out of this rather iinrnature set of arguments grew the more nieaningful reflections which lfarlhani made ahout itself. In the most significant Senate meeting of the year. Senators concluded that the relocation of the opinion hoard was part of a larger issue involving student-adlninistration relations and Earlhanfs future. During the discussion. Frif- Curtis said that it would he easy' for lfarlhani to he great. lvut that the meaningful thing is for Earlhain lu he significant. The Earlham Post under the editorship ul l,anr-e Dodson put on a strong editorial campaign lreginning with YVither Thou Coest. Earlham: a tragedy in three parts. The cani- paign attacked the forward look. the lioolxinark. and other liberal college propaganda pieces. and it supported those who objected to relocating the opinion hoard. Then came the Phi Beta Kappa discussion. As in the 'lwhither goest Earlhainu dispute. nothing was resolxed. But the pros and cons of Phi Beta Kappa were discussed hecause. although the final decision rests with faculty and administration. student opinion is important. Ohjectors to PBK felt it would 1wer-einpliasize grades. and increase academic pressure too much. College prestige and increas- ing academic standards were the arguments for PBK. Con- sideration of PBK continued into the Spring Term when other schools were polled to see if the presence of PBK attracts better students.
