The one who never complains about hard work, who toils and slaves and actually enjoys it. We all feel, I am sure, that these peo- ple should have some recognition for their unending services. It is for this reason that we, the Senior Class of Eagletown, dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Bertie Darity for her perpetual loyalty, friendliness, and aid to all around her. ij. Some Outstanding Graduates of Eagletown High Each year the staff of the Eagletown High School Eagle endeavors to improve on the past years edition by adding new ideas and more people to the Eagle. This year a commit- tee was appointed consisting of Bennie Hopson, Patsye Farmer, Wilda Hendrix, Bonnie LeForce, and Ollie lean Wilson to select some of the outstanding graduates of Eagletown High so that those who will be reading the 1971 Eagle will have an opportunity to remember some of our former students. Presently it is the plan to continue to feature former graduates in future editions. LT. COLONEL ARCHIE F. Editorgs Letter Gathered within these pages are treasured memories of classmates, teachers, activities, and all has been a part of our school life at Eagletown High School. The publication of this annual has been a challenge to us. It has required the co-operation of our sponsor, students, staff, and those who have so generously contributed their support through advertisements. Our thanks go to everyone who has helped us. We hope this publication will be one of your most cherished possessions. Nena Bailey Terri Packnett Editor Assistant Editor ' .rv :lvl is V V- 4 2 , . ..,, v Foreword Freedom is a personal thing. It is expressing oneself as a person feels. It is creating . . . working . . . expanding . . . growing. lt is believing in a particular concept, while your neighbor believes in the opposite. It is at- tending a concert, or painting a picture, or tinkering with a jalopy, or reading a book, or riding a wave - just because you want to. It is the de- velopment of a personality, an idea, a dream. In a period in history when people are clamouring about rights, and privileges and freedoms we of EAGLE decided one day to take poll of how our country, our community, our school measures up to the loud demands of angry youth. Because of what we saw, we decided to make FREEDOM - as a living, personal involvement in life - the theme of the '71 yearbook. For you see, we of the EAGLE STAFF do believe that the citizens of EHS ARE BORN FREE Administration Faculty Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Elementary Organizations Favorites Athletics Activities Advertising Contents BOARD OF EDUCATION President - DALLAS ALLEN Vice President CHARLES SMITH Clerk - DOYLE LEONARD Member - HENRY BLACK Cnot 1n PICIUICJ Member - BILLY JACK ROAN z .Eff ---. s MR. HOMER L. COLEMAN Superintendent Based essentially on the belief that students can make the most progress where numbers of students are limited to a certain extent, Eagletown students have an op- portunity to take advantage of this concept. Teachers in the Eagletown School are in- clined to feel it is their duty to give that little bit of extra help that is so often necessary for a student to reach his full potential. It is this type of teacher dedication and student motivation that has brought about the good working combination enabling students to score so well on standardized tests. Due to the size of our Eagletown School system, we also have an opportunity to develop a close social life, very similar to one of a large family. As graduation time nears, it is with some mixed emotions that we anticipate the departing of the class of 1971 from this institution. I would like to encourage them to let the successful com- pletion of their high school education not be the end of their formal education, but only a milestone along the way. l would also like to express my appreciation to the kind working members of the Annual staff and their sponsor for again doing an outstanding job of recording another chapter of Eagletown School History within the covers of the 1971 Eag1e. You will have the privilege of living in the most exciting, stimulating, and turbulent period in man's history. But, with that priviledge comes the re- sponsibility of learning to cope with the complex challenges facing man today. Remember, you will be held accountable for the kind of work you pass on to succeeding generations. Some of you will seek It has been said that obtaining an education is the first job anyone has. Whether you are successful at it will have a great deal to do with whether you are successful in later years. To all student, I would like to express my desire to help you in any way that I cang and to the Seniors l extend an invitation to come back and visit us after you have graduated. an f to meet this responsibility through further education, others will go directly into the economic and social life of the community.
